Looking Ahead: Ben Ball Depth Projections - Part I: Introduction & Roster

With another season of Ben Ball brand basketball just around the corner, it’s time to look at this season’s depth chart and project how our roster will look over the next two seasons.

As with the football projections, I think having this information broken down will help give us some perspective to gauge how our recruiting efforts are shaping up, see where we're going to need to get help down the line, and touch off a bit of discussion.

That said, although I have been promoted (although I'm still waiting for some of that cold hard cash), I still lack N’s chart and graph making abilities, so you’ll have to bear with me while I work out the kinks (such as SBN deleting more than half of my post not once, not twice, but three times).

Star-divide

Before I start, for the curious, you can read more about each of our Ben Ball warriors (including the lesser-known non-scholarship guys who work our warriors in practice day-in and day-out) in the official media guide

By our standards, this year's squad has some serious question marks.  Sure, it's true that 99% of the NCAA would kill to have our squad, but the fact we expect so much from this team should speak to the standard of excellence CBH has brought back to the nation's preeminent college basketball program. We’ll start with the current roster:

In the next segments, we'll actually get into how our depth chart projects this season and the next two, starting with our backcourt, led by veteran floor general Darren Collison, veteran swingman Josh Shipp, and exciting, highly-touted freshman Jrue Holiday.  The third segment will key in on our frontcourt depth, led by consummate Ben Ball warrior Alfred Aboya and veteran forward James Keefe.

Was Abdul-Hamid given a scholarship?

According to BBR, Abdul-Hamid was given a scholarship this year. Just wanted to clarify, because BBR also says that we only have 11 scholarship players including Abdul-Hamid; by my count, that should make 12. So I guess the question is…does he have a scholarship or not?
Here’s the link to the BBR article.

By the way, congrats on being promoted.

Mustafa was given a scholarship

We had a scholarship available and instead of letting it go to waste, CBH gave it to Mustafa as a reward/thank you for all the work he’s put in.

Good to know

from what I can tell, he deserves it. If I remember right, he chose to be a walk on here rather than take a scholarship to be Harvard’s starting PG.

He was

Rye is exactly correct: going into this season, we only had 11 scholarship guys, and so rather than letting another one sit around unused, CBH gave it to Abdul-Hamid. I marked him down as a non-scholarship guy since he is not a scholarship guy in the sense we use it in recruiting.

Thanks for catching my typo

I accidentally put Keefe ahead of AA2 on the roster; when I made the switch, apparently, I forgot to change the year. Thanks for the catch!
