Center Court: Ben Ball (Michigan) Open Thread

Michigan Wolverines at UCLA Bruins, Nov 20, 2008 6:40 PM PST

Let’s get it on.

How big is this UCLA-Michigan matchup tonight in NYC? Well it’s big enough that our friends from MGoBlog and Maize n Brew took note of it in midst of their Holy (tOSU) week.

As discussed all week, the Wolverines under their second year head coach John Beilein will be fired up to take on our Ben Ball warriors tonight. So here to JS, MR, AA2 and rest of their team-mates bringing their A game on DEFENSE:Img_0677_medium

For our notes on Michigan Wolverines please go here, here, and here.  The tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm PST.  It will be on ESPN2. You can also track it on our official site.

As always if you are watching the game, share your instant thoughts/commentary here in our game thread.

Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

Hello from MSG/NYC

Hey fellow Bruin fans,

Finally getting that rare chance to watch my Bruins live here in New York City. Just watching the Duke-SIU game and can’t decide whether I want Duke to win or lose. What do you all think? BTW, mobile posting from an iPhone seems to work. :)

Go Bruins!

I'm rooting for Duke

I’ve never hated Duke like a lot of other people seem to and I’d rather us get the tougher test (and RPI boost) should we win.

Hmmmm

As a College Basketball fan, I’m rooting for SIU. As a UCLA fan however, I’m rooting for Duke.

I hate Duke

Always have, always will. Something about them just doesn’t sit right with me, maybe the way they feel like they’re entitled to a top ten ranking every year

Watching the Pistons-Celtics right now

AA saw a lot of playing time last night against the Cavs with a very tough assignment: LeBron. Doug Collins reports that he did quite well, and his +/- of +12 (highest on the team) does back this up.

by Tydides on Nov 20, 2008 5:39 PM PST reply actions

SC has a lot of athletes

but they’re not quite sure where to go and how to work together yet. It looks like chaos at times out there for them. You can see their potential, but also how far away they are from being a really strong team. They’re going to be interesting to watch as the year goes on.

Not at all

and how did they manage to take a 5 point lead into half despite turning the ball over 17 times?

by Ryan Rosenblatt on Nov 20, 2008 5:49 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

I have been channel surfing a bit. Seems like every time I was watching, the Salukis were taking it straight to the rack without facing any defense.

Duke doesn't have anyone in the middle

If they think Zoubeck (sp?) is going to be their force in the middle, they’re going to be in trouble.

I have class from 6:30-9:30 tonight. Ah the life of a UCLA student :(

Hopefully, I’ll be let out early so I can catch the end.

Basketball took priorities. I had couple of those 6:30-9:30 classes too. IIRC they were history discussion sections. I left in the middle off those classes few times because I told the professor flat out … had to go to Pauley.

Young team. Road game. Against a D we’ve had trouble with before.

Let’s be realistic. We can win this game and until it’s over, I’ll believe that. But, we can lose it, too — and frankly, it will have no impact either way.

I want to come out of all this pre-season stuff with some chemistry amongst those who will play all year and NO injuries. Wins and losses are secondary to both in my mind.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on Nov 20, 2008 7:20 PM PST reply actions

moving pick

Michigan big men move their screens every time

by RealisticBruinFan on Nov 20, 2008 7:25 PM PST reply actions

Everytime we try to pull away

Michigan reels us back in. They’re a much better team than the one we saw last year.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on Nov 20, 2008 7:27 PM PST reply actions

They are shooting 32% and we are killing them on the boards

Turnovers are the difference.

That’s probably to be expected with so many young players. Don’t find who has the turnovers in the box score I’m looking at. Anyone know?

Warts and all ...

No inside presence.
Lots of freshmen playing and making mistakes.
Not much from Alfred, Josh or Roll.
Darren has made several bad plays.
- James has played with energy and purpose
- Jrue is unbelievable; his first block on Harris set the tone for that match-up, has the guy even scored yet? Then his second block in the paint showed really quick ups!
Go Bruins!

Not much from MR?

You must be watching a different game. He has 4 rebounds and has been very active.

Agree re DC, AA2 and JS.

yup, forgot those rebounds! Good work, Mike!

But in the offensive sets, he had as much trouble as everyone making the right pass at the right time. Guess that’s what made the impression on me. It must be really tough to work against a really good zone!
Also, DC is too hesitant to fire his 3pt shot. He passed up several open looks.

not sure if anyone's mentioned this

but Texas Tech scored 167 points tonight. It was against some ridiculously bad school, but 167 points? That’s just absurd. I thought only their football team was high scoring lol

JS was fouled in there

that’s ok, let them play both ways

bad play by srs to start half

josh gets nailed for j right in his face
josh blows layup, then stuck underneath with nothing
darren absolutely drops a sure rebound
got to settle down

Michigan playing

inspired, but that will wear off.

by brewinz on Nov 20, 2008 7:52 PM PST reply actions

I dunno

we’ve given them an opening. Now they have some confidence which is scary. We need to come out of the timeout strong.
