We are down by 2 pts early in the second. Let's hope JS and rest of the guys can settle down and get it together in the second half.

BH doing the right thing -- playing the freshmen early in the year

We might be better with the more experienced line up, but we need them to get this playing time.

Has Josh even scored yet?
Darren very tentative.

DC

needs to be WAY more aggressive. He makes something happen every time he penetrates.

We need inside scoring this year

when we get the ball in, we miss shots we have to make

this happened last year

i know it was a veteran team, but we took until the last 6-7 minutes to figure out the 1-3-1. Remember we were down 10 late and ended up winning by quite a bit.

Wow

What a horrible call.

what IS this?

are we allowed to TOUCH them?

by bucknellbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:12 PM PST reply actions

this is strange

you attack a 1-3-1 from the corners to the middle. Swing to the corners then before the trap comes hit a flasher on the elbow. Yet we haven’t done that at all.

by bucknellbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:14 PM PST up reply actions

Yes

DC has never handled 1-3-1 well.

by Nestor on Nov 20, 2008 8:29 PM PST up reply actions

Not just DC

I remember Jordan and Aron having problems with it as well. We just don’t match up well against that scheme.

I have to say

Michigan looks like they want this game lot more.

None of our key seniors – DC or JS – are showing that warrior mentality we got accustomed to with AA and RW.

by Nestor on Nov 20, 2008 8:31 PM PST reply actions

think of jordan farmar

did he ever allow himself to be taken out of a game mentally the way that has happened several time to darren, last year and this game… Farmar was a rare one.

by mplsbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:33 PM PST up reply actions

It's all mental

The seniors remember the trouble that they’ve had before. It’s like reliving a nightmare. The freshman have clear memories and no fear.

by BruinFan96 on Nov 20, 2008 8:33 PM PST up reply actions

that possession might go back to Mich...

disappointed that darren let that ball get ripped out of his hands.
he’s really in major funk; should have nailed that key 3; and he’s passed on somany

by mplsbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:32 PM PST reply actions

Bad ball movement … neither DC nor JS is taking charge.

greg in denver - UCLA guy for life

by gbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:37 PM PST reply actions

It's over guys. This is officially a development season...

… it’s all going to depend on how much guys improve this year.
I see a lot of potential for Holiday, even Keefe. But we’ve got some issues that I don’t think will resolve.

by mplsbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:37 PM PST reply actions

Yeah.

Um, let them have a couple more practices with Coach Howland, before you give up on them for the year, OK?

by Joe Bruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:38 PM PST up reply actions

Its not even

over yet. Besides, we ALWAYS have trouble with 1-3-1, particularly Beilien’s.

by bruin8uclap on Nov 20, 2008 8:39 PM PST up reply actions

What can't we resolve?

(not angry, just asking)

greg in denver - UCLA guy for life

by gbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:38 PM PST up reply actions

I'm NOT giving up. Just setting my own expectations.

And I expect that we will develop as the season goes on. We’re not really top 10 at this time of the season. Ben will work on the freshmen and Holiday will start to take a greater role.

by mplsbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:42 PM PST up reply actions

Right

but you said we have issues that won’t resolve. Just asking what.

We do have work to do, but I don’t see anything we can’t fix with time and experience.

by bruin8uclap on Nov 20, 2008 8:43 PM PST reply actions

Given how they called the rest of the game, I think there’s a good chance they were.

by Tydides on Nov 20, 2008 8:45 PM PST up reply actions

Wow

All body on that block.

greg in denver - UCLA guy for life

by gbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:43 PM PST reply actions

We don't deserve the call

Was there contact? Probably, but Michigan deserved the game more than we did. They played tougher and wanted it more. Hopefully we learn from this.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on Nov 20, 2008 8:43 PM PST reply actions

He knew they didn't deserve to win

But man, makes you wonder how a ball can go off course when the defender doesn’t touch it. Makes you think a little.

by Tydides on Nov 20, 2008 8:45 PM PST up reply actions

Well whatever

Use it guys. Anger can be a powerful motivator

by Tydides on Nov 20, 2008 8:43 PM PST reply actions

Can't say I'm really

all that surprised, but I am still MAD AS HELL!!!

by bruin8uclap on Nov 20, 2008 8:45 PM PST reply actions

wow

i dont know what words to use but that was a piss poor game

no offense from anyone except a couple players, no one penetrating

i dont know if its our offensive scheme but you CANNOT pass it east-west all game

that was bad

by blinkshot on Nov 20, 2008 8:45 PM PST reply actions

Offense

I still get the sense that our guards don’t have confidence in what happens when they get it inside. So, they feel their only option is perimeter scoring. It is kind of like football and having a passing game but no running game, so the defense can focus on your strength and ignore your weakness.

by Joe Bruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:47 PM PST up reply actions

not sure guys

that looked pretty clean
i don’t think that deserved a call

besides we didn’t deserve this game. Michigan did

by bucknellbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:45 PM PST reply actions

2 part response...

part 1 – disagree

part 2 – agree

greg in denver - UCLA guy for life

by gbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:46 PM PST up reply actions

Pretty clean

Except for the elbow…and the defender not touching the ball.

by Tydides on Nov 20, 2008 8:46 PM PST up reply actions

'clean' and deserved, two different things

contact looked like a clear foul, but the way that DC and the Bruins played tonight, the call was not really deserved.

by bruinhoo on Nov 20, 2008 8:47 PM PST up reply actions

no probs

we need to fix the issues that got us in that spot first anyway

greg in denver - UCLA guy for life

by gbruin on Nov 20, 2008 8:49 PM PST up reply actions

to be fair, should not have come to that (non)call

Had we played well, the game would not have come to a final shot.

by bruinhoo on Nov 20, 2008 8:45 PM PST reply actions

Yup

When you get to the point where a call at the end decides a game then you didn’t play well enough in the first 39 minutes.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on Nov 20, 2008 8:47 PM PST up reply actions

the game

should not have come to that call

we had no offense besides passing it left and right

defense did NOT lose this game – our piss poor offense did

by blinkshot on Nov 20, 2008 8:47 PM PST reply actions

even the veterans on this team

are playing like freshmen so far this year. collison is frustrating me this year. we are missing easy layups. akfjlaif salf sd

by Point Guard 08 on Nov 20, 2008 8:47 PM PST reply actions

Besides

End of the game – refs put the whistle away. A&M, Stanford…

We shouldn’t have put ourselves in that position.

PAC 10 woes

It looks like most of the top tier PAC-10 teams are going through some growing pains. My hope is that we peak in Feb., March, and April.

by UCLA Championships Made Here on Nov 20, 2008 8:48 PM PST reply actions

we had our share

of calls last year, so lets not talk about the refs

let’s talk about the fact that we were WAITING 30 seconds to play when we should try and run and gun against a 1-3-1 znoe to BREAK it down

how predictable was this? beilein owns howland for a reason
