So prepare yourselves, Nittany Lion fans. I'm telling you this now. Nobody is going to give us a chance in the Rose Bowl against the mighty Trojans. Already people are saying USC deserves better than a consolation prize. Even the USC players aren't giving us any respect.

Ehhhh...
I hate U$C as much as anyone, but until the Big 10 can prove it can win a big game against a highly ranked non-conference opponent, I suggest they shut their collective mouths.

I do believe this was posted
because everyone and their mothers are just assuming U$C has already beaten us. Let’s hope this bulletin board material can motivate our boys!

(S)Mack Brown gets his
Oklahoma leap frogging Texas for the coveted number 2 spot in the BCS is karma for what Brown did to a Cal a few years back to get into the Rose Bowl. Cal led by Aaron Rodgers deserved to be in the Rose Bowl to play Michigan, but Smack Brown talked his way into the game by getting the support of the media and coaches while Tedford stood by and watched his team get a minor bowl.

Disagree entirely
How did Cal end up doing in that minor bowl, the Holiday Bowl, that year?
Oh, that’s right: they got beat by an unranked Texas Tech team 45-31.
On the other hand, #5 Texas went on to play a thriller against #13 Michigan, edging the Wolverines 38-37, and subsequently setting the Longhorns up for the following season, where they went undefeated, beating U$C for the national title.
I’m not saying I’m a fan of Mack Brown. I don’t care one way or the other how this whole Big-12 mess turns out. Just goes to show, once again, that the national title is meaningless without a real playoff. As for this whole Cal-Texas issue, people can cry and whine about how it turned out, but at the end of the day, Cal choked and Texas won, so to me, it looked like it turned out the way it should.

I can't say I'm surprised that everyone is looking over us..
and while I personally can’t stand the Big 10, I think everyone would agree that they have no right to talk after their hopeless performances in Rose Bowl and National Championship games over the last few years.
Regardless of what happens, I’ll be there as always, hopefully rooting for Oregon St., but If must, I’ll be a Nittany Lion for a day haha..

Re: No right to talk
I think it makes more sense to judge each team on their merit rather than say the entire conference has no room to talk because of four games. Penn State has won three bowl games in a row now (ACC champ in ’05, Tenn from OMGSEC in ’06, and A&M in the "We’re All Average Bowl" last year). They also beat up on almost-Pac-10 champ Or State.
As for past Rose Bowls losses, the Big Ten has failed to show up but it’s always against USC…and it’s not like anyone in the Pac-10 is beating them either. Another thing worth pointing out is that USC, the conference champion, hasn’t been matched up with the Big Ten champ since the 2003 season (UM and Ill were both runner ups to OSU).

Fair enough points
and this is interesting discussion.
The problem, as I see it, and I think I speak for many West Coasters, is that in our collective minds (if there is such a thing), we recall the Big Ten’s performance in recent National Championship games and in recent Rose Bowls (admittedly against SC) and that forms our “impression” of the Big Ten, fair or unfair as that may be. (Good point about SC not being matched with the Big Ten champs, by the way).
And you are correct: Penn State should be judged on its own merits and should not be blamed for the losses of other Big 10 schools. Penn State has had an outstanding year and if they do end up meeting SC in the Rose Bowl, we will, of course, hope for an exciting, competitve game, with the Nittany Lions winning by 48 points.

I fanshoted the quote above not to start any Big-10/Pac-10 superiority discussion. I don’t find conference smack discussion all that interesting. I used to get into few years ago.But now I have become somewhat ambivalent to it.
Penn State is a great football team and in my book a legit national championship contender. I guess I fanshoted that excerpt because it really stuck out to me as how much of an afterthought this Saturday’s game is and how everyone has PSU/Southern Cal all penciled in (and I don’t blame PSU fans because they are just responding what ignoramus such as Plaschke is writing).
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Congrats for a great season. It’s been a fun year at BSD (I always enjoy reading it whenever I stop by). Cheers.

i dont quite remember
but did the entire big 10 drop an egg during recent bowl games? I know OSU hasn’t done anything but how about the other schools?

The Big Ten went 3-5 in bowl games last year
Purdue beat Central Michigan, Penn St. beat Texas A&M and Michigan beat Florida.
Michigan St. lost to Boston College, Oklahoma St. beat Indiana, Tennessee beat Wisconsin, USC beat Illinois and LSU beat Ohio St.

That was only last year that Michigan beat Florida?!?!?!
Wow. I had forgotten how far and how fast Michigan has fallen.

When we beat SUC on Saturday
Penn State will have to worry about playing the Beavers, not the trOJans.

That's the spirit, Silver!
Pardon my French, but I’m sick and tired of all the downer talk shit by Bruins fans. Excuse me for stating the obvious, but the game has not been played yet. We haven’t lost until the scoreboard reads zero time left and UCLA has scored less than SUC.
Take it from a semi-geezer who has lived through some horrible years for UCLA and also some great ones, too (8 straight against the Evil Empire): If we lose, there will be plenty of time for being depressed and moping around. But save the negativity until AFTER the loss, ok?
Sheesh.
