in case no one's heard

Dragovic isn’t playing tonight because he was arrested on suspicion of battery earlier today. Here’s the preliminary report: http://www.dailynews.com/breakingnews/ci_10930776

Just Shows

I’m a die hard Bruin, but maybe everyone here needs to slow down before they call out kids on other teams for offenses…This happens to 20 year olds everywhere and some things said on this board are flat out ludicrous, trojans or not

by buffsnbruins on Nov 8, 2008 2:05 AM PST reply actions

Not the entire point

What seperates us from other schools is how we respond to the situation. If this turns out to be true, I hope DG and CBH make the right choices concerning disciplinary reaction.

Disagree, Buffs

I think the majority of the contributors to the BN call out athletes everywhere. Because of who and where we are, we tend to focus on UCLA and its nearest neighbor. Exposing hypocrisy is a virtue, and naturally the rampant hypocrisy at justsc is a logical and generally very easy target.

This is also a fact-based board, Buffs. If you disagree with the facts posted, you should explain your reasoning and provide facts to back it up. It sounds to me like you’re critical of the fact that the BN posts the justsc “Rap Sheet” which lists all the infractions by all the individuals. If you think the content of that is wrong or unfair, explain why. I think it illustrates perfectly the difference between justsc and UCLA. The fact is that many justsc “student-athletes” have no character. An absence of character tends to become visible, and it is nowhere more visible than at justsc.

It would be easier to respond to your criticism if you would present the facts upon which your criticism is based.

A die hard Bruin?

You root for the Colorado Buffaloes in football and for us in basketball?

How does that make you a die hard Bruin?

My point was not to offend anybody

My point was simply that as a recent college graduate, I have a little bit of sympathy for how quickly these athletes come to judgement now. Kids in college make mistakes, some big, some not so big. While I by no means condone battery of a woman, no facts have been released and I just feel sometimes for kids like Dragovic that with the media how it is now, there is almost no fair legal process they can go through publicly as his image is almost surely somehow permanently tarnished.

As for those of you who want to call out my allegiance to UCLA, go ahead. I have attended UCLA basketball games since I was 4 years old through season tickets with my dad. My dream was to go to UCLA but unfortunately I did not get in. So yes, I went to Colorado and loved every second of it. Does this make me any less of Bruin fan? I live for UCLA hoops and because I also root for my alma mater there is something wrong with that?

A "Bruin"

Should root for every UCLA sports teams not just one of our specific programs.

There are lot of “UCLA basketball fan” these days. Sorry this is not just directed at you. I am sure your story about rooting for UCLA basketball since you were 4 is true. But to me a Bruin fan is someone who roots for all UCLA sports programs.

No, buffsbruins, I tend to

think you’re right on this one. Domestic relationships are intractably emotional issues, even betweem live in boyfriends and girlfriends. Mistakes easily, easily happen with twenty some year olds as much as it does for older adults in the spur of the moment when it comes to this sort of volatile situation. Often times, the parties resolved the issue between themselves after the arrest, with no charges subsequently filed by one party against the other, whether any physical contacts actually occured. But then unfortunately the person’s reputation lay in shambles already because of the arrest itself, and not the aftermath.

I can care less you only root for us in basketball, and not swimming, badminton, lawn bowls etc. Where you went to college has no bearing on how I personally perceived you as a deserving fan of the Bruins. I never went to the University of Texas – Austin but Vince Young and his electrifying dash over the Trojan goal line amid the horrifying shrieks from the SC girls on the sideline forever made me a Long Horn fan. I wrote on their website. They never lectured nme about the need to become enrolled at their university first, then root for all their sports program before they can accepted as a Long Horn fan.

In this respect, I guess my own perespective is somewhat different. Look, buff bruins, if you ever had to do it over again, by all means, call the mayor’s office, Westwood city councilman, Stevens Spielberg etc to see if they could pull some strings and get you in. No, I’m just kidding of course. You tried, didn’t make it in and at least we’re delighted you still acread about us enough to root for our team.

I think there's a slight difference

Between being a true Bruins fan or more of an “ally” or bandwagonner with the Bruins. In your situation with Texas, you didn’t really become a clear Longhorns fan, you just shifted your view on their program with much more positiveness and joy. To be a true fan of any college program you must root and support every sport that team participates in, and it seems that that is not the case with buffsnbruins. He obviously supports the UCLA basketball team, and has for many years, but it also seems apparent he knows nor cares about little else beyond that. You can be a fan of any team, but to be considered a true fan and not just a bandwagonner you have to give your entire, undivided 100% support to that team.

Agreed

I applaud buffsnbruin for being a huge UCLA hoops fan. Nothing wrong with that.

But for someone to get standing to chime into matters related to UCLA as a “Bruin”, IMHO he or she has to be a fan of every sports team of UCLA and feel as he or she were part of the fabric that makes up the culture of the extended Bruin Nation.

by Nestor on Nov 8, 2008 12:57 PM PST up reply actions

Oh my, the spelling error on my part

It’s " perspective " and you still " care about us ". I just needed to prove read first, really.
