Football Injury Notes
Not sure if you guys missed this, but three of our football players recently had surgeries and another one was planning on it:
Freshman defensive back Tony Dye, the Bruins' primary nickel back, had a screw inserted in his fractured left wrist and is expected to recover in six to eight weeks.
Defensive tackle Jess Ward had arthroscopic surgery to clean up his left knee but no torn cartilage was found. Safety Bret Lockett had a plate inserted in the forearm he fractured in his final game against USC last week.
Linebacker Akeem Ayers is expected to have surgery on his left thumb, another injury from the USC game, next week.
Dye was an absolute warrior this year who played with that wrist injury all season. It's too bad Lockett got hurt in that last game as he was closing the season on a strong note. Hopefully Ward gets healthy soon and cannot wait to see Ayers suit up in the coming years. I think he has the potential to develop as one of the better Bruin LBers we have seen in recent years.
GO BRUINS.

No Drama
I just realized how nice it feels to end a football season without angst and drama.
Reading Nestor’s post on the outlook for our injured Bruins brought home the fact that things are positive, we have no turmoil, we had the season we expected — one that laid the groundwork for getting us where we will be.
Bruin fans are united, for the first time in years.
The only “issue” is the possibility of DW getting the job he wants and deserves and that is a positive for both him and the program.
Sure a lot better than the past several years.

I absolutely agree
I don’t have that sinking feeling that I normally have after the season ends. I have a much different feeling this time…hope! I really liked the way our Bruins played this season (with the exception of the BYU game), and I’m looking forward to great things.
Go Bruins.
So ...
what’s next for Ben Olson and Pat Cowan? Are they gone or can they appeal for a 6th medical redshirt season? I know Jason White did at Oklahoma.
Neither can get a 6th year
To get a 6th season you must miss 2 full seasons with an injury. Olson missed one of his years due to transfer and Cowan redshirted so he could develop. Because neither of their prior redshirt years was due to injury they cannot get a 6th season. Olson says he will attempt to land a tryout with a NFL team and I’ve heard rumblings that Cowan is considering getting into coaching.

I'd love to see PC roaming our sidelines
Next year, PC roaming the sidelines as a graduate assistant would be a welcome sight. Kind of reminds me of another former UCLA QB who was unheralded but played his heart out all the time, who ended up as a UCLA grad. assistant during his law school years.
Truth be told, I think BO has a legit shot with the NFL. Protection schemes there are a lot better and if he can stay healthy, he might prove to be a servicable backup somewhere. He’s got the arm strength, that’s for sure (and while limited by injury, he does have more in-game experience than Matt Cassel did when he went pro). Whether he can shake the injury bug is a whole different story.
CRN, give PC a job!
I hope BO gets his NFL shot, too.
I don’t think he is injury prone — he just couldn’t take the beating Craft took and I’m not sure many QB’s could.
On his last, big injury, CTS left him in a game way too long. Inexcusable negligence and disregard for a player’s well being.
Best of luck to Ben whatever he chooses to do. He truly is the poster boy for a career ruined by poor coaching.

The difference with Jason White was
He lost two years to torn ACLs.
