The South Carolina coach, who had a history of taking verbal jabs at Kiffin’s predecessor, Phillip Fulmer, questioned whether Kiffin broke NCAA recruiting rules by contacting Tennessee recruits before he was cleared to do so.

OK, I bollocksed this whole thing up.
I was trying to block quote a line from the Yahoo/Rivals.com news story that broke yesterday.
Apparently, the ink was not yet dry on Lane Kifffin’s contract when he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Steve Spurrier of all people called him out for some minor recruiting violation. I think it’s a testament to the complete disregard USC has for the rules set down by the NCAA (And, really why should they?) that he made this mistake. This reminds me of the illegal phone call to Joe McKnight by Reggie Bush which he admitted in an interview, then retracted a few days later.
I’m sure Lane Kiffin will answer truthfully if asked by the NCAA to clarify this situation. “I didn’t know there are any rules governing the contacting of recruits! Nobody ever said anything about this kind of stuff at USC.”
