Oh Oh, Cracks In Another Trojan Committment?
No wonder Kenny and Petey are sounding sooooooo desperate.
Check out this comment from DeVon Flournoy, a Southern Cal commit who will take his official recruiting trip to UCLA on Jan. 9 (emphasis added throughout):
``I realized you can't go to school for what it has but rather how it can help you,'' Flournoy said of the recruiting process. ``Being a football player, you want to touch the ball as much as you can but get a degree that means something, too.''
Again here is what CRN said yesterday:
“That being said, I was sorry to read the comments Kenny made in the Los Angeles Times. I have not told any recruits that if DeWayne left, Kenny would be the defensive coordinator at UCLA and neither have my assistant coaches. Despite the fact that Kenny is a great Bruin, we have more than enough positives at UCLA to interest recruits and convince them that this is the school at which they can flourish both academically and athletically.
This just keeps getting better and better.
I don't see us getting DeVon Flournoy but the fact that a Trojan commit is out there essentially confirming CRN's message is freaking priceless.
I strongly suspect the next move from the Trojie camp is going to be some hard core Trojie recruits going on record (or in background) to T.J. Simers in attempt to support Kenny. It will happen. It won't prove anything of course. The beauty of it of course is it will keep UCLA and Southern Cal in equal footing right during the heat of recruiting battle, taking focus of their BCS bowl game.
Just perfect.
GO BRUINS.

I for one am hoping that CRN makes it to the Rose Bowl again
this year and gets on TV to talk about what he is doing at UCLA. That would be classic!

2nd that
Oh man…..that would be freakin’ hilarious.
Yeah, I don’t think we get Flourney (We got tons of WR’s already and we have Richardson in 2010) but the kid gets it. I read his comments and chuckled a bit myself. The smart kids will see through all of Cheatey’s and scum’s BS. The others that can’t, I think its better they never step foot on campus because they’ll be in the headlines for the wrong reason due to their lack of judgment.

And also the fact that
they can’t tell the difference between Joe Biden and Joe the Plumber.

I hope Flourney does decommit
And by that, I don’t mean necessarily that he comes to UCLA.
When PC came to South Central, I said, “Big deal. He was run out of the NFL and never really showed signs of being a great head coach.” When they announced that Norm Chow was going to be the OC I hung my head in misery. I knew then what we were in for. ONE national championship and a couple of Heisman Trophies later the rest of the country knew as well.
So, it felt like Christmas when Norm Chow left South Central at their peak. Now, PC has named some guy I’ve never heard of, and who only this year was a position coach to be his Offensive Coordinator. It’s like Christmas all over again! I don’t doubt recruits are going to be having second thoughts in the month to come.
This is going to be great!

ONE championship
Oklahoma didn’t deserve to be in that title game. It would have been nice to see them actually play another team that deserves to be in the title game and see what happens. Oh wait, they did… against UT and we know how well that turned out. It doesn’t matter as they’ll just dust off the record books and add some more mythical titles from years past based on some arbitrary system.

right now may be the most
important time for UCLA football in the last 10 years. In my opinion, this is finally a chance to start creating a stable program that competes with SC and the rest of the Pac 10 year in and year out.
That means no PR slip ups, shameless self promotion, even things like beating USC in basketball help show that is in the no way the tough older brother in this town. Neu has done a great job so far planting positive seeds throughout this city and the media, recruits, fans are all slowly coming around.
As long everything stays clean on our end, and I have no doubt in my mind it will, I think we’ll finally start seeing positive growth and a foundation for years to come. LOL, i guess this stuff is just getting my fired up for football already in a way i haven’t felt in many recent offseasons.
O.A.

agreed
about how important this time is to our program. Which is why I think losing DW right now, who was bringing in good players and setting a good tone for the defense, is gonna be tough. I felt like the D was starting to become a more consistent presence for this program – I’d hate to see us lose that momentum.

disagree respectfully
Honestly I am not all that worried about recruiting for both short or long term. CRN has been driving the point on recruiting last few months. Period. Honestly Walker has been fairly occupied with interviewing process since the season ended. That is understandable. Walker helped in a big way to hold the recruiting class last year but this year it has been CRN leading the way.

agree with Nestor on this one
Remember, DW was the personality of the coaching staff last year. He was in charge of convincing recruits to come. Dorrell certainly wasn’t making impressions on people with his passion. That’s why all those guys wanted to make sure DW stayed. But now it’s CRN that is the most animated coach on the staff. He’s been the one personally visiting and recruiting the players this year. While losing Walker may hurt a bit, it will be nothing like if he had left last year. I’m confident CRN will keep the class together, and keep more guys coming in.

Its been no surprise
CRN has had to deal with this question since he’s been hired, so he’s been preparing for this day. I’m sure he has his pat answer to recruits that might worry about DW leaving, something similar to “flourish both academically and athletically.”

Another angle..
I might suggest this whole Kenny and Petey saga is an attempt to stop the recruiting bleeding.
Their attempting to suggest to the nations recruits that the only plausible reason for one of “our” recruits to de-commit and to UCLA no less, is that there had to be foul play. Unfortunately while suggested by Petey, Kenny took the bait. But with SC’s recent string of transfers, and now this 5 star de-commit, and with your comments about possibly another….which I’m sure they already had heard rumblings within. I think it all about saving face and protecting a cracking program.
