Carroll "Recommends" Walker to SDSU

Bumped. In other words in Carroll's world SDSU > UCLA yet everyone buys his snake oil re. his respect for "tradition." All his BS last week about "jerseys" now looks like nothing short of a cheap PR stunt to show up the Bruins in our own house. GO BRUINS. -N

So Petey showed even more of his class by "recommending" DW for the SDSU job. He's been overflowing with graciousness this week, hasn't he? Per Dohn:

UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker did interview for the vacant head coaching position at San Diego State on Sunday (which I reported in Sunday's paper).
As an interesting twist, Walker's former boss, USC coach Pete Carroll, called the search firm handling the process to recommend Walker for the job.

Hmmmm...I wonder how many people were fooled into believing Carroll did this out of the goodness of his heart. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that DW's defenses have given Petey fits the last 3 years. In the same week that he managed to get praised for being an arrogant prick (regarding the jersey decision), he's now trying to look like a good guy when he's really just undermining his rival.

Now don't get me wrong here. I am all for Walker getting every opportunity he wants. I've made my opinion clear - I think he deserves a HC job. But we've all agreed that the SDSU job isn't exactly a top rate job right now. If Carroll really wanted his former assistant to succeed, he'd recommend that he wait a few years for programs like Tulsa, TCU, Utah, etc to open up. Those are the mid major positions that jump start careers. Or even better, call up a school like UW or Tennessee and tell them what a good coach DW is.

For a while it was funny, but I'm honestly sick of USC's classlessness. The jersey thing wasn't too bad IMO, but planting the sword, dancing on our logo, whining about late hits, etc have pushed me over. This is just another sick attempt to set our resurgence back, and quite frankly it pisses me off.

As Pat Forde said, "Stay Classy, Trojans".

He also recommended Walt Harris and Greg Robinson

to Stanford and Syracuse respectively.

What a coaching tree! Any AD who listens to this clown should be fired. How can you not realize that PC is only recommending people to further his own self-interest.

Classy

Petey must be in the giving season. I’m sure glad he’s watching out for his former employees. Oh wait, he’s watching out for himself.
To hell with him and those ass clowns from across town.

Victory or until next year!

It's not about PC, it's about what DW wants.

The heart of this story isn’t the recommendation, it is that DW is interviewing for a job that is probably not right for him. He will be able to do better in a couple of years after this program is turned around and he can show a track record of consistent success.

I’m sure that if DW wants that job, or any other, CRN will do all he can to get it for him.

And, if CRN’s relationship with DW is as good as it appears to be, I’m sure they are having candid talks on what’s best for DW.

I have absolutely no horse in this race. I was not a big DW supporter last year. But, when CRN said he wanted DW, I wanted DW.

This year, I’m a little more positive about DW. But, I won’t mourn if he leaves. I’ll wish him well and know that CRN will bring in another great hire as DC. (Rocky Long, come home!)

Again, to me, the focus is on DW, not pc.

And, yes, I know that pc told DW not to come here and is now trying to help him go to SDSU — but DW will make his own decisions (as he did by coming here) and I’m sure he’s pleased that an old employer is putting in a good word for him. What do you expect PC to do? Refuse to give a reference?

I doubt DW takes this job

He will want to coach a school with prospects, and no offense to SDSU, It doesn’t have the profile. I believe DW will remain patient until a better opportunity presents itself. After all, HC positions open up every year. Plus, once our offense is running as smoothly as a Norm Chow offense should, The defense will follow, and raise DW’s profile to an elite status befitting a ?Notre Dame anyone?

No way

Is that going to happen. ND is going to let Weis coach one more year and then make a play for Urban Meyer. After that, they are looking for someone with head coaching experience, which is what we should have done a few years back.

why would Meyer leave Florida though?

He’s got it all down there; passionate fans, a great recruiting base, a great team, and unlimited resources. He’s set the foundation for UF to contend for a national title every year. He’d be crazy to leave

Personally, I don't think Meyer will leave for ND

but it’s not as ridiculous as some have made it seem. While Meyer did say no to ND previously, he has described it as his dream job and coaches have a tendency to look for the next big challenge. Rarely are coaches happy with a good thing once they’ve succeeded. Meyer could have won a national title or two, then decide he wants his next challenge, turning around a once proud ND program currently in shambles. I don’t think it will happen, but it’s a possibility

The guy's named after Popes, for heaven's sake

Of course he wants to coach at the Dome. But sheeyoot, let’s face it, the Irish should permanently accept their recent descent and accept a full time slot in the Big (not) 10 (anymore). Oh, and take it from this adoptive San Diegan, Aztec football is about 2 more cr*ppy seasons from going the way of Long Beach State, CSU Northridge and (for you geezers out there) Loyola Marymount football. Why in the hell would DWW wanna take that one on? Sure, turn it around and maybe you become the “miracle worker” but hey, the Aztecs have completely stunk since Marshall Faulk left, and even when he was there they only flirted with success (tying SUC in ’92, 3 missed FGs in a 1 point loss to Miami). No one in their right mind . . . .

I wish, or let's just say

fervently hope he will also recommend Steve Lavin for SC’s own hoops program too if whatyoumightcallit blew his top at his next tournament game, threw his own gatorade bottle across court and had to resign. Better yet, if and when University of Afghanistan needs a Coordinator of Recruitment for its varsity sniping team, tell Petey we got the right candidate for him to recommend.

You'll want to respond to this...

Take a look at this post on fannation.com, specifically citing this discussion:

Someone posted a comment about “pathetic” Bruin fans discussing PC’s recommendation. You might want to respond to his diatribe. I did.
