Howland And His Warriors Are Off To The Final-4

Update [2008-4-2 23:30:53 by Telemachus]: Thought I'd update Nestor's existing post to add these two video clips from local TV coverage. Looks like it was a great send off!

Thank you so much to everyone who were kind of to share their pictures from today's sendoff at the Bruin Walk between the Wooden Center and JD Morgan Center. Coach Howland and his warriors are off to San Antonio:

Thanks also to others who emailed us pictures from this. Here is a short youtube video of the send off(HT to Jose). No sound but still pretty cool.

For more pictures check out RyanM's alum (snapfish) here. More goodies from bruin08  and lidre here and here (Kodakgallery). Lastly, here are the shots from AP  wire (thanks Bruin77).

BTW those who are going to swarming San Antonio in your Bruin blue and gold here are some info on Bruin Bash you may want to take down (courtesy of Perelman):

The official UCLA party in San Antonio is the Bruin Bash, which will be held Saturday and Monday regardless of whether the Bruins defeat Memphis on Saturday evening.

The location is the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center at 200 E. Market St. in San Antonio and there will be the usual excitement of alumni, band, spirit squad and lots to eat.

The times are from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, about an hour and a half before tip-off of both sessions.

Pricing is per event and is $95 for adults, $50 for children and $75 for students for pre-sales, which conclude noon Wednesday for both parties. At-the-door sales will be based on availability and will cost $100 for adults, $50 for children and $75 for students.

More information is available from the UCLA Fan Travel Office at (310) 206-2873.
For the rest of us who are going to be losing our voice on Sat night screaming at the TV, we will have our game watching party thread up tomorrow am. But then again you don't have to wait for us and start talking about where you are going to be watching the game right here.

GO BRUINS.

The send off was a great idea
we should've been doing this all along.  I'm glad it happened, and the pictures bear out how truly great our students and fans are.  It's only fitting that the players who don the four letters UCLA get such a send off.  Cue the Bill Walton speech about order being restored in the universe.

Hope he makes it out to the games this weekend

One attribute of Geezerdom
is a slight re-wiring of the synapses and all those inter-cranial things.  Some things make me fired up, but more often than not things bring a tear to the eye.  For reasons by no means clear, that line, delivered with such passion by Walton, is one of the things that makes me misty.  That can be mighty embarrassing when I try to explain things to Mrs. Fox 71, but she's getting used to it.

Then, whatever you do,
sniffle, do not watch Roy Firestone's interview with Big Red. I'm a sucker for father-son love tales, in general. When it involves favorite Bruins, I am completeley helpless.

Order Restored...
makes you even more proud to think of our alumni.

Thanks, BN
Long-time lurker, but it is finally time to end my anonymity now that I have appeared on BN (I am the guy in the right-hand side of the Howland photo, pointing and cheering on Love and Shipp, who are just out of the shot).  I can't count how many fans I've directed to this awesome and articulate community.  It's about time I expressed my appreciation for what you have all built here.

I graduated in '88 but I decided to stick around, and it's now been 20 years.  I still work on campus, and I never take for granted what a special place this is.  Thanks for giving me both an education in UCLA athletics and a virtual home of fellow Bruins who share the same passion.

Thanks, BN!

I jinxed myself
when I said I would do my best to go and take pictures to share.

Naturally something came up that prevented me from going. Same thing happened when I announced here that I was going to go to the UCLA v South Central baseball game at South Central.

No more announcements from from me. I'll just take pictures and post 'em.

I graduated in 2003
Yesterday I was waiting outside, just standing along Bruinwalk near the Morgan Center.  A UCLA mom came up to me and asked if anything happened yet and I said no.  So we started talking and she asked me if I was a freshman.

=\

I said no, I graduated nearly 5 years ago and now I'm on staff.  I guess I'll be carded in bars for a verrrrrrrrry long time.

Heh, I graudated in 2005
A month ago I was on campus and got to talking with someone and they asked me if I was a HS student touring the campus.

My mom says to enjoy it while I can.
