Men's and Women's Tennis Receive National Seeds for NCAA's

The NCAA released their brackets for the men's and women's tennis tournaments and UCLA fared well in both draws. Both squads won their respective conference titles by virtue of defeating USC in the regular season's final match.

The men's team was seeded third and the women's team was seeded seventh in a national bracket where only the top sixteen teams are seeded. As a result of their high seeds, both the men's and women's team will host first and second round matches at the LA Tennis Center, May 9-11.

The women will open up tournament play on Friday, May 9 against Buffalo at 1 pm PST. The Bulls were 12-8 on the year and qualified for the tournament by winning the MAC conference championship. The UCLA and Buffalo match will be preceded by a match between Long Beach St. and Denver. The winner of the two matches will then play at 3 pm PST on Saturday, May 10 in a second round match. The women are led by senior Riza Zalameda, who won the Pac 10's individual title last weekend by defeated USC's Amanda Fink in the conference tournament final.

The men will kick off their tournament at 12 pm PST on Saturday, May 10 when they battle Eastern Washington. Eastern Washington went 18-6 this season, the best in school history and qualified for the NCAA tournament when they won the Big Sky title. Prior to UCLA and Eastern Washington squaring off, Wisconsin and Washington will face each other. The winners of Saturday's matches will square off in the second round on Sunday, May 11 at 1 pm PST.

The winners of both the mens and women's second round matches will advance to play in NCAA championships at Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The women's championships are May 15-20, while the men play May 16-20. Tickets for the first and second rounds are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
