Brian Dohn just spoke to Kevin Love's mom:

I just got off the phone with Kevin Love's mother and she was adamant no decision was yet made, and was disappointed about reports she called "false" that her son already told UCLA coach Ben Howland he was leaving.

Update: Brian Dohn also just spoke to Darren Collison:

I just got off the phone with Darren Collison, who said the report he was leaving early for the NBA draft "is not true. I haven't even talked to my parents yet." I posted a small EAPoe comment earlier based on the idea that LA Times wouldn't risk their reputation by reporting something so big without confirmation, but now I realize that LA Times doesn't have a reputation to risk.

Obviously if Kevin Love stays, the implications will be huge.

If Collison stays, the implications will be huge. Expanding this will result in filler text to meet the minimum character requirement.

Obviously it could very well still be true, but "adamant" is an adjective I would not expect to be associated with routine denialspeak.

that makes no sense.

They could still go, but that doesn't mean the times had the story right. Since its the times, my guess is their source is Tim Floyd.

The decision won't be made until the family discusses. Of course Love will most likely go to the NBA, but that isn't really a scoop.

They ran with a story

that P. Diddy (puff daddy, sean combs, whatever) had something to do with the murder but that was discovered to be untrue and their source pretty much fabricated it.

The problem with this is

They're always going to deny that they've come to a decision if they're planning on announcing it a news conference.

Collison's denial does sound pretty genuine though. "I haven't even talked to my parents yet."

Claiming to have the story independently. Not just the LA Times risking some of their rep (not that I think they are coming back, though it does seem reasonable that an official decision is a couple more days away).

Not that it matters much

from our POV because I, too, fully expect the result to be the same in the end, but we do have a problem here. These jackals, in their haste to be the first to break the story, essentially fabricated this report, nevermind that at the moment, it's completely inaccurate. They just wanted to be first. That's the MSM nowadays. And we're supposed to trust what they say on other issues?

"We haven't even decided whether to recognize Kansas as NCAA champion" one Fox 71 source speaking on condition of anonymity said early this morning. I don't necessarily think Doh!n is wrong

all the time. But obviously we raise red flags any time he makes a report or bases an opinion on his magical "unnamed sources". In this case, the sources are cited, and I don't think there are many reporters bold enough to take that kind of direct quote and spin it into something else.

However, in the end, I believe both will be gone, and that's all that really matters.

Unfair of me to throw a cheap shot like that, and I shouldn't take out my frustrations on him. I guess it's kinda like how I hate my dentist, when I'm really just bummed at facing what I don't want to face (losing KL, DC, RW, LMR, maybe AA2, etc).

Seen this movie before

Love and DC are gone. It will be made official today after Howland's press conference. You can bet the house on it.

Westbrook is about 98% gone too. That 2% I'm leaving to the small chance that he may just decide to "test the waters", not hire an agent, have a bad workout in front of NBA scouts, etc....

At this point we should just consider losing those three a given, hope that it stops there, and move on.

Expect this not to drag on and on..

Howland (and KL and DC and RW) will want to clear the air as soon as possible about their status. It serves no one to wait, to drag this on and on. The three will probably evaluate their market value with parental and professional advice this week and make a decision. But, if I am Love, why would I want to spend between now and April 27th being hounded by reporters about my decision?

If they stay, then Howland and UCLA can make plans for the Fall. If they don't stay, then he can contact, notify, and pursue potential replacement recruits.

This is all just a guess...

Since Collison has tested the waters before, and since we have way too many guards coming in next year, i'm sure he will go and get an agent right away.

Love will definitely go to the camp and test the waters, but he won't hire an agent I feel right away...leaving us all hanging...

I am leaving early

too for the summer, but haven't yet contacted an agent for my travel itineraries. So that means if I change my mind after finding out the fares might be prohibitively expensive due to higher fuel costs, I may be back staying with BruinsNation.

Under the federal FCC guidelines, this is an option available for me.

Which reminds me of a true story

Long ago, the Tigers traded a journeyman catcher named Harry Chiti to the Mets for a player to be named later. At the end of the season, the player the Mets named was Harry Chiti, making him to this day the only player to be traded for himself.

And on a side note, I think I am taking way too much heat here. I am not declaring for the draft, and in fact have four years of eligibility left. Unfortunately, I doubt that I could get into the school with my high school GPA and my SAT scores.

We can never guarantee a championship

or almost guarantee one. In a single elimination tournament, you never know what could happen. One bad game and you're done or one game where the other team is shooting unconsciously and you're done. We would be the favorite should 2 or 3 return and have an awfully good chance at a title, but nothing is ever guaranteed.
