Derozan to UCLA?
This Just in from LATIMES

http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/usc/la-sp-derozan14-2008may14,0,2957342.story
"DeMar DeRozan, one of the nation's most highly sought high school players, signed with USC in November, but his father and older half-brother said Tuesday he might consider other schools if the Trojans sustain a quick and heavy penalty."
Then get this...
"We're just trying to see how things play out. He doesn't want to leave home because his mother is still sick" -- she suffers from lupus -- "and isn't getting any better."
"Compton High Coach Tony Thomas said he recently had been contacted by assistant coaches from two of the Final Four teams -- which were UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas and Memphis -- inquiring about DeRozan's availability."
Although probably unlikely, UCLA could get him.
Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahah. Let the fallout continue.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Realistically
He’d be competing with Holiday and Collison for playing time under Howland’s defense oriented system. I think Memphis or Kansas are much more likely choices for a flashy one and done like Derozan.

I read this too...
...and, like brand0n, I immediately figured the “two Final Four teams” calling DeRozan’s coach were Memphis and Kansas. I guess maybe I’m biased because he’s an SC commit, but he seems like their kind of flashy player. I checked scout.com, though, and it looks like he has an offer from UNC, so maybe it’s Memphis and UNC? I personally don’t think it’s too likely that he would switch sides and become a Bruin, but then again, he did seem to be making pretty good friends and cracking jokes with Jrue, Jerime, Malcom, and Drew at the Nike Hoop Summit. In any case, I am enjoying SC’s negative publicity, causing their recruits to think twice!

He's so athletic
with his height at 6’ 6’ why couldnt he play small forward? haha
DC, Jrue, Demar, Drew, and J’mison? i know this is all highly unlikely, we didn’t even know if j’mison is for sure a bruin, and if josh and luc are for sure coming back, but its fun to toy around..

I think the best part of DeRozan jumping the sinking $C ship is...
...that Timmeh wasted a scholarship on no-talent Lil’ Romeo as part of the deal to land DeRozan. Althought not shady like Juice Deuce, it was incredibly fucking stupid on Timmeh’s part.
So imagine if DeRozan leaves, which means Timmeh not only doesn’t get the prized recruit he wanted, but he gets stuck with a kid who got not a single offer from another D-1 program.
Haha.

Haah Oh wow
If Derozan leaves, and SUC is left with lil romeo, I’m not sure there could be a funnier situation, but yes as rgallo said, I don’t expect the NCAA to take any major action, so the best we can do is speculate..

Maybe
Lil Romeo can help do some recruiting too. I hear Soulja Boy is still undecided.

it's happened to us too...
The “bait and switch” move DeRozan appears to be contemplating reminds me of a UCLA recruiting episode about 13 years ago. Except back then, it was Nate James telling Harrick that he wouldn’t come to UCLA unless we gave “his boy” Rico Hines a scholarship too. Well, Harrick took the bait and gave the completely unheralded and otherwise unrecruited Hines a scholarship. James then promptly signed a LOI with Duke. Now, Hines turned out to be a “nice” player for us, but he’d better still be sending Nate James a Christmas card every year.

We're counting our chickens quite a bit here...
I have no faith in the NCAA to do the right thing this time. They have already proven they are gutless with their lack of action wrt the Reggie Bush scandal. I’d love to see DeRozan anywhere but justSC, but I refuse to get excited about this as there are many events that must occur first. We’ll see.
GO BRUINS!

UCLA will not touch Derozan
I don’t see it. Compton coach probably is talking about Memphis and Kansas.

If true
What a-holes the LA Times is for including UCLA in that list. You know the only reason they did that is to implicitly say that UCLA is no angel as well. SC and their puppet paper LA Times mantra must mirror the one in X-files: “Deceive, Inveigle, Obfuscate”

Read the quote carefully
It says:
“Compton High Coach Tony Thomas said he recently had been contacted by assistant coaches from two of the Final Four teams - which were UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas and Memphis - inquiring about DeRozan’s availability.”
It doesn’t say which Final-4 teams contacted the Compton coach. I just don’t believe UCLA coaches would contact the Compton coach. There is no need for DeRozan in our team.
Also the guy wrote the article, Ben Bolch, is a TrOJIe beat reporter, gas bag extraordinaire, who once compared UCLA-SuC “hoops rivalry” to “UNC-Duke” rivalry. Typical TrOJie asshat from the Times.

I know
I read that quote. I’m just saying that there was no reason to mention UCLA in any capacity at all. Why not just say 2 other schools contacted him? Nope… they wanted to say 2 Final Four teams and then listed them with UCLA first in order to try to convey some sort of perception that UCLA either wanted the guy or would try to poach him from USC.

what if we did though?
I’m not putting any stock into the idea that we are recruiting him, and I of course wont be disappointed if we aren’t. But if, and i mean IF CBH did contact him, maybe he sees or knows something about Demar that we don’t. I immediately want to peg all SUC players as criminals and thugs from the get go, but maybe hes an ok guy. Once again, I’m only toying with this idea until we know what happens to him and the sucster bball program.
I mean I can at least give him a chance until he proves he is bad guy, we do know he wants to stay near his mom who is sick, which seems honorable, and we also know he got along quite well with UCLA’s incoming class as seen from their time together on team USA. So hey, unless a superbly gifted athlete like demar gives me reason not to like him, or see why he wouldn’t be a fit, I’ll float the idea around.
But please feel free to shoot me down,if I’ve missed any troubles with the law or authority that he may have had, but I was pretty sure he had a clean slate.

I'm not indicting DeMar
As far as I know, he’s kept himself clean. I don’t know if he qualified academically to UCLA. But if he did and kept himself clean, I don’t blame Ben for going after him. But there’s been no indication that Ben has ever been interested in the guy. As long as taking him doesn’t mean taking L’il Romeo, that’s fine.
I was not attacking DeMar, but the writers themselves who like to sensationalize stories and throw innuendos out like candy, especially if it’s to make usc’s crap stink a little less.

The last thing the Bruins need
is another one-and-done player. Although I agree the Bruins need to get more athletic to win a NC, they are so close that I hate to see them abandon the philosophy that has gotten them this far. DeRozan does not seem like a fit at UCLA, regardless of whether he committed to USC or not.

What about Holiday?
Holiday or maybe even potential freshman Morgan could easily have an amazing year and be one and done players. One and done is the sad reality of college basketball today. At least we’re UCLA and can handle the repercussions of one and done situations better than mid-major programs can.
We can’t ignore players just because they are potential lottery picks.
