Friday Night Double Header: Softball (v CSUF) & Baseball (v WSU) Open Thread

We will start the weekend with a special double header – UCLA softball/baseball – open thread.

As mentioned during our walk the UCLA women’s softball team will be gunning for championship number 12 starting tonight against Cal State Fullerton at Easton stadium. Jelly, AK-47, Katie Schro, KC and rest of their team-mates will be looking to avenge a tough 0-1 loss against the Titans earlier this season:

According to WWL the game will start around 4:30 pm PST (ESPNU) (HT to OSQ for the pointer towards the schedule). If you don't have ESPNU you can always follow the game online via our official site .

Meanwhile, the baseball will be fighting for their playoff lives against Washington State Cougars at Jackie Robinson stadium (first pitch 6 pm PST ). You can track that game online via the official site (note tomorrow's game will be broadcast live on FSN starting at 1:30 pm PST).

So there you go. It’s own version of BN doubleheader. If you are watching our Bruins on ESPNU or following them online … swing away.

GO BRUINS.

Softball probably won't start until around 5

The previous game literally just finished as I typed this (Nevada won 4-1) so the UCLA game won’t start until 4:50 at the earliest (they have to re-drag the field, take the field, announce lineups, etc.).

Men’s tennis is playing right now - I haven’t followed them closely this year - should I be concerned it looks like they’re going to lose the doubles point?

Oh, and thanks for the link N.

Our doubles are strong

We’ve won 21 out of 24 doubles points this year. I think FSU has strong doubles teams so this isn’t huge surprise, but I’d have felt much better taking the doubles point. Keep an eye on Srugo and Dehaine in the singles as they’re the 2 Bruins who were selected for the individual championships.

Bruins battle back to win the doubles point

Meanwhile, USC just won their doubles point. We get the winner of USC/Oklahoma St. should we get past Florida St.

Baseball leads 2-0 in the 5th

a solo homer from Blair Dunlap in the 1st (his 1st of the year) and a sac fly from Brent Dean has them ahead. Meanwhile, starter Tim Murphy is filthy tonight, blowing away the Cougars.

Solid

What a great win for UCLA softball. You could really see the excitement from the players. And how about AK-47 sticking it to her former team?!

I wanted to post a preview of the regional and a recap of the last few weeks, but school kind of got in the way :)
