Men's Futbol Releases 2008 Schedule
The men's soccer team released its fall schedule, which includes five of the last seven NCAA champs. From the release :
The Bruins open the 2008 season on Aug. 29 in a nationally-televised game against 2005 champion Maryland at The Home Depot Center. Fox Soccer Channel will broadcast the game live as its Game of the Week. On Sept. 5-7, UCLA travels to the Wake Forest Tournament to take on the defending NCAA champion Demon Deacons on Sept. 5 and 2001 champions North Carolina on Sept. 7. UCLA, which won the 2002 NCAA championship, will host 2003 and 2004 champions Indiana on Sept. 12 and 2006 champion UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 1.
Even though men's soccer went into last season as heavy favorites to win at all and fell extremely short of expectations, this fall should still be exciting at Drake Stadium with another postseason push.

They underachieved last season
Will keep an eye on how Salcedo has them respond this season. Last season was a huge disappointment.

They've often started flat at the beginning of previous seasons...
...and while they kinda picked things up near the end of the season, they just never clicked come postseason time. It really was a huge disappointment.
GO BRUINS!

I'm not going to say Salcedo is on the hot seat
but I’ve been told by people in the know that DG is going to keep a close eye on how the men’s team does this season

Yeah
I have not lost confidence on Salcedo (yet). But next season will be very interesting. I hope we have a strong season. Because from what I have read (and from what I remember back from our days as students at UCLA) Salcedo sounds like a good guy. I wish him luck.

There is no excuse for losing to CSUN in any sport.
I love Jorge, he is a Bruin though and though, but he has to be on the hot seat. Our recruits are insane. Its like a prereq to have international experience one of the MNT U teams to even be considered from the team here. We have so much talent, but we always start out slow. then in games where we are ahead we let the other team come back in the second half. That type of stuff reflects on the coaching. Either he not preparing them for the game or he is having difficulty adjusting in game to what the other team is doing. I think if we start out slow or exit the championship in the second round again we will hear people clamoring for a certain assistant coach for the LA Galaxy to replace him.
Oh I am excited to see Nakazawa play this year. He keeps getting better every year.

What bothered me most, IIRC
Was how we always seemed to try an extra pass, when we had a perfectly decent chance without it. Only rarely did it end up in a significantly better position. We seemed to be trying to create perfect goals that couldn’t miss, only we weren’t very good at that. That stylistic emphasis doesn’t reflect too kindly on the coaching. And I think that might’ve caused some of the comeback difficulties, as it’s a lot easier to defend a two-goal lead than a one-goal lead.
