Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

Friday Night Double Header: Baseball (v Cal) & Golf Open Thread

Here we go.

The Memorial Day weekend is off to a fantastic start here on BN. Now let’s hope we can keep the good times rolling.

Baseball team’s last regular season series (a must win) is going to be underway any minute now. Last weekend we had the softball team featured in all of our open game threads and all of our teams won every single game.

We are going to stick with that MOJO:

play was suspended for Women’s golf. They are currently 6 shots back of U$C. I’m not sure what to make of this…...

by BruinInDenver on May 23, 2008 2:35 PM PDT reply actions

They've resumed

If there’s more delays though, they might not finish today.

UCLA seven strokes back now.

Baseball jumps ahead 2-0 in the 3rd

Jermaine Curtis led off with a double and was sacrificed to third. Alden Carrithers struck out, but Casey Haerther came through with a two out double to score Curtis. Next, Brandon Crawford singled to plate Haerther.

Excellent

If you guys can …. keep it coming.

Some of us will be checking the thread via cell!

Yes, it needs to rain

I don’t remember the details, but I remember a few years back in women’s golf’s last title, they were struggling during the final round before the day was cut short due to rain. They won the next day.

by gilbert on May 23, 2008 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Just checked the forecast

and it says 40% chance of rain through 8 pm.

Golf now seven back

(prays for an epic U$C fail)

There not playing badly given the conditions. Seven shots is tough to overcome, U$C is playing lights out.

Golf

5 back pretty much everyone on the back 9

by lil eg not cs on May 23, 2008 4:12 PM PDT reply actions

Baseball still up 2-0

Now going to the 7th. A typical Friday game with both aces pitching superbly. Hopefully Murphy can keep it up.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on May 23, 2008 4:45 PM PDT reply actions

I have to go

if someone can finish the baseball updates so I can keep track on my cell that’d be great. GO BRUINS!!

by Ryan Rosenblatt on May 23, 2008 4:55 PM PDT reply actions

UCLA leads 5-0 now, still int he top fo the 7th

After Carrithers’ homer, Haerther walked and advanced to third on a Crawford single. Brady Dolan then singled to score Haerther. The Bruins have runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out and the Bears are making a pitching change.

Okay now I really am heading out. Hopefully the Bruins hold on.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on May 23, 2008 5:04 PM PDT reply actions

6-0

Babineau walked to force in another run. Brent Dean now up.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

Golf now 4 back with players having completed 11th thru 14th

Wonder if the $C collars are starting to feel a little tight.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:10 PM PDT reply actions

Through 12-16

Trojans pick up a shot, so we’re now 4 back.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

2 more runs- 2 run single by Dean

Top of the 7th over- now 8-0 with Murphy heading out to hill for bottom of 7th

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:14 PM PDT reply actions

Top of the 8th

3 up, 3 down in bottom of 7th. Still 8-0

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:16 PM PDT reply actions

More golf

After 12 holes, Tiffany Joh leads the individual competition by 1 shot.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 5:17 PM PDT reply actions

Charging Bruins everywhere!

Lady Golfers have pulled even with the trojams for the day and are 3 behind overall. Tiffany Joh has taken the overall lead on the individual leaderboard and the Baseball Bruins pounded the reeling Kal Bores for 6 runs in the 7th.

Easy money and faithless women, red-eye whiskey for the pain...

by rich87 on May 23, 2008 5:22 PM PDT reply actions

$C picks up another stroke

Bruins now trail again by 4. If UCLA golfers could repeat their best score for 1st 3 days on remaining holes, they would be able to pick up 6 shots against par. Unfortunately, using the same logic, $C would pick up 7 shots.

No time like the present for a late charge by the Bruins !!

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

Bottom of the 8th

Still 8 nothing. Murphy still pitching. 2 out, none on

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:29 PM PDT reply actions

Ack

5 shots behind, played 13-17

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 5:36 PM PDT reply actions

2nd and 3rd, 1 out

Dolan singled and Weisser doubled. Babineau grounded out to 3rd. Curtis up.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:36 PM PDT reply actions

End of top of 9th

My bad- there were 2 outs for Curtis. He flied out to end the inning.

Murphy back to finish complete game in bottom of 9th.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:38 PM PDT reply actions

Golf is losing holes to make a run

Same margin, now completed 14-17. On the other hand, that’s only 4 more holes for Joh.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 5:42 PM PDT reply actions

2 out, bottom of 9th

Cal pinch hitter got single with 2 outs. Murphy had set down 9 in a row.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:44 PM PDT reply actions

another base runner

1st and 2nd now, 2 outs. Last batter walked. Let’s finish this off.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:48 PM PDT reply actions

Done Deal in Baseball, 8-0

Complete game shutout for Tim Murphy. Gave up 5 hits and struck out 10. Very nice start to the weekend series.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:52 PM PDT reply actions

A proper THUMPING!

The 15th ranked team in the nation, the Kal Bores, just got clowned on their home field!

Easy money and faithless women, red-eye whiskey for the pain...

by rich87 on May 23, 2008 5:53 PM PDT reply actions

Margin's down to 4 shots in the golf

One player already in. Joh still has her 1 shot lead.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 5:56 PM PDT reply actions

Just like

Bruins only down 3 and are tied with USC at +2 for the day.

by dproduct on May 23, 2008 5:57 PM PDT reply actions

Margin now 3

13 total holes remaining for the 5 golfers.

Go Bruins.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 5:58 PM PDT reply actions

Looks like it's up to 4 again

Joh still with a 1 shot lead, 3 holes left.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 6:07 PM PDT reply actions

Each team has five holes left

Margin still five, it looks bleak now.

by gilbert on May 23, 2008 6:11 PM PDT reply actions

Agree

2 Bruins are in the clubhouse. Only 4 total holes remaining for the 3 Bruins on the course. The only hope now is that Guillory’s check to the 2 seniors on the $C team bounces, and they fall apart.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 6:22 PM PDT reply actions

Joh bogies

Now tied for her individual lead, with only 18 left. Looks like the team chances are just about done, though.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 6:23 PM PDT reply actions

Bogie increased $C lead to 6

3 Bruins in clubhouse. 2 Bruins playing 18

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 6:27 PM PDT reply actions

Joh and ASU opponent are in same group

18th is par 5. Tiffany Joh birdied this hole in prior round, ASU opponent has parred it each day. Here’s hoping.

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 6:30 PM PDT reply actions

Joh has the better chance at a birdie

She’ll be putting second, of the two that’re tied.

by jaffa on May 23, 2008 6:37 PM PDT reply actions

Future Looks Bright for Women's Golf

There were no seniors on this year’s team. UCLA also has two stars, Stephanie Kono and Brianna Do, in next year’s frosh class.

Go Bruins !!

by islandbruin on May 23, 2008 6:53 PM PDT reply actions

I've been keeping tabs on Kono

She’s a great talent, and unlike Michelle Wie she actually played for her HS :-/

by Tydides on May 23, 2008 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions

USC baseball lost

which means they’ll be home watching regionals for the 3rd consecutive year.
