It was funny the only part i got
to catch on tv was the women's relay that we got blown out in, glad to see we came back and stuck it to 'em.

Rodriguez
Her leg in the last relay was the difference.  She smoked our runner.

Amazing effort by Rodriguez
watched it live as it unfolded. That's as gutsy as performance I have ever seen from an athlete. I know she is Trojan. But have to give it up for her. Amazing effort.

I was there
before I headed to the baseball game. T&F is awesome for anyone who hasn't been. There's always something going on and if you're there in person I guarantee you'll be amazed watching these athletes. They are superhuman.

Interesting Headline in Local Paper
The printed OC Register headline for the meet was, "Trojan Women Top Bruins" possibly revealing their customary Condom-slant.

Aside from the fact that it involved the breaking of a 15-year losing streak, the headline reminded me of  the USA-USSR meet where Billy Mills won the 10,000 meter race against only one Soviet runner. Pravda's headline read, "Soviet runner finished second in 10K; U.S. runner finishes next-to-last."

God, it's great to be a Bruin!

Oddly ...
or maybe not so, that was the slant that the FOX telecast of the meet focused on as well, even though Dwight Stones - a UCLA alumnus - was the lead announcer.  UCLA's men's victory almost seemed like an afterthought compared to Jeannette Bolden's women's first loss to the Trojans in her 16 years as head coach (the loss also marked the end of a 73 dual-meet win streak).  To top things off, they then named two Trojan atheletes - Carol Rodriguez and Larry Lionel - as the meet's most valuable performers.  While I can't fault their selection of Rodriguez (as noted above, her performance was truly memorable), I don't think Lionel's performance was so dominating that they couldn't have found an equally deserving UCLA male athlete to share the honor with Rodriguez.
