How many National Championships before basketball starts?
It was disappointing Saturday as the Women's softball team wasn't able to advance in the Women's College World Series, suffering a 2-0 loss to Florida. However, Bruins Golf collected Bru-103 in thrilling fashion as recounted by LA Seitz. Meanwhile the UCLA Baseball team stays alive with an 11-4 win over Cal State University Fullerton. Despite the softball loss, it was a another great day to be a Bruin.
And we keep having things to look forward to. A key member of the Fab Five, Jrue Holiday was featured on the EA Sports High School All America Show. Money quote: ..."most observers consider humility his greatest asset."

Are we living in a "Golden Era" of UCLA sports?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

A fair question to ask…
How many more NC’s must we endure before basketball season :-)?

Women's softball.... vs. ASU
I absolutely agree with John Kruk on TV, and disagree with the other announcer who excused the intentional walks given to the ASU lead-off hitter. That is poor coaching and inept team management. Shades of KD indeed!!
The other item is how can UCLA get this far in softball and have a pitcher who has so little confidence in her fielding that she runs away from bunts and otherwise stinks up the position when it comes to this critical part of the game. In addition to the poor coaching decisions shown on the national stage as to the intentional walks, all year the pitcher must have been receiving some very wide passes when it came to fielding responsiblities. Yesterday, at one point, a bunt came her way, the third baseman came in to field, and, of course, there was no time to make a throw. Is this how they have been playing all year? Rye, what is your input? I thought the rest of the teams played with a bit more “utter abandon” in pursuit of wins, but not our lady Bruins….. consciously putting themselves in the back seat with the inept coaching decisions and then suffering the rest of the game….

Golden Era?
I tend to think we are enjoying one, but not as much because of the recent 3 championships. Rather, those titles plus the overall trajectory of the athletic department, including near misses, coaching upgrades, etc. makes me suspect that we are seeing something special.
For a little perspective, keep in mind that if we finish 2008 with 3 NCAA titles, that will be the 15th time UCLA has won 3 or more NCAA titles in a single calender year. Of those, we’ve won 5 titles four years (1971, 1982, 1984 and 2004), and 4 titles twice (1972, 2000).
I tend to agree with BB that we may not be done yet this year, so we may have an even better year. I sure hope so.

Hmmm
Didn’t we have something like 4 or 5 titles one of the years we were in school?

3 in one month?
Has that ever happened?
(I guess I could research it myself, but I’m getting spoiled around here)

Golden Era of UCLA sports?? You guys have like at least 40 overall sports national championships. Maybe more, I’m not sure of the exact number. If only there was a basketball jersey that could inform me of it.. Point is you can’t really have a Golden Era when your entire frigging history is the Golden Era of UCLA sport.
But see, up north, we are truly in the Golden Era of Cal sports. I mean we won a Holiday Bowl. A Holiday Bowl. Defeated Texas A+M. If that isn’t the Golden Era of Cal sports, then I don’t know what is?
