What, if anything, did what you learned at UCLA prepare you for the NBA?
Kevin Love was interviewed after his workout with the Memphis Grizzlies.
What, if anything, did what you learned at UCLA prepare you for the NBA?
Toughness and also character. On the court, I’d definitely say defense because coach Howland emphasized that the whole year. In high school you kind of get to sit back a little bit, block shots. I still think I’m a good defensive rebounder and can block the shots, but in college with hedging out and switching, I definitely think that I improved my team defense throughout the year.
There is a video of his workout here, from Grizzblogs:
Love looks leaner than he ever did at UCLA and shoots the ball pretty well from NBA three point distance in the video.
The only bad thing about Love going to Memphis -- if he was to go to Memphis -- is that they are never on television in Los Angeles. You'd have to buy whatever NBA package there is out there and then have to sit through Grizzlies games. Lousy teams are rarely on TNT -- like once or twice a year or something like that and only because the league mandates that everyone get a national game or two -- so there will be little change to watch Love as a pro if you are on the West Coast.

Love looks to be in terrific shape...
If only I had a personal trainer to cancel the costs of my raucous college lifestyle.
Best of luck to Love in Memphis, if that is where he ends up.

The perspective ...
in the picture is weird.
He looks pretty high off the ground (for Kevin, at least) but he doesn’t look like his head and arms are anywhere near the height of the rim.
It’s a weird picture, isn’t it?

I'm just amazed he was able to translate the question
The blogger must have been classmates with Joey Dorsey.

I was thinking ...
the same thing when I used the question as the headline.
LOL
But, shoot, I linked to the guy’s page and used a picture from his site … I figured I’d cut him some slack.
And …
When you ask questions and tape them and then literally transcribe them, they never read just right. I’m guessing that the reporter taped the interview then did a literal transcription. Real conversation never reads well on the page.
... but it did take me a couple of reads to figure out the question …

KLove
Always disappointed that top college players go to these lousy franchises and just disappear. I know he’ll make more money going at #5, but I’d hate to see him get stuck in a black hole like that.

Maybe in a few years...
The Lakers will trade another bust and another first round draft pick for KLove just like they did to spring Pau from Memphis.
