Phil Jackson -- Meet Lorenzo Mata Real
Bumped. We just inserted a little expert testimony on LMR's behalf. GO BRUINS. -N
I think many of us who watched the Celtics play Ben Ball, and the Lakers play soft ball knew exactly what the Lakers were missing -- Lorenzo Mata Real.
Today, it seems that Phil Jackson sees the need and hopefully he will see the player who can fill it.
The only missing part that I've always consistently said is we need a head banger, we need a tough guy on this team.
LMR is that, and much more. LMR is a total team player. LMR always plays hard. LMR doesn't step away and reach in, he takes charges. He is the antithesis of the soft "Hollywood" player:
I'm really surprised that everyone seems him going to foreign soil to play. Surely, there are teams that value what he brings -- and one of them should be the Lakers.
I know he won't be drafted, but if I were the Lakers, I'd call him in for a walk on try out, or whatever they call it.

I’m in Pasadena and there it was in the driveway—so I read it.
I feel soiled.

That may be the best idea ever
I’m not a true Lakers fan but would become one immediately if LMR played for them.
It’s a longshot, but it would be fun.
Gilbert speaks for me on this subject.
I am a hard core fan of any team that contains Mata-Real.
Yeah, great idea.
Maybe Pau would learn a little ruggedness in the process, too.
The Mad Bruin
Or more likely...
Pau would end up getting hurt in practice the first week, going against LMR. Given all that we’ve heard about bodies flying around in practice under CBH, and considering even KL (who IMO is a lot tougher than Pau) was taking a pretty good beating from LMR and AA2, I’m not sure Pau’s body would be up to the task.
Love Lorenzo and he deserves a shot
but agree it would be a longshot indeed…

I recall...
... a certain guy who was a role player on Phil Jackson-coached championship teams, most known as a tenacious and driven rebounding and defense guy, while scoring only on put-back-types of opportunities. About the same size as LMR, too – and LMR bests Rodman in the character department hands down.

Dream summer for this Laker fan...
... (1) LMRAM either gets drafted by the Lakers, or comes home to Westwood.
(2) LMR gets a training camp invite, absolutely levels Vlad Radmanovic on a clean pick in a scrimmage, and Phil and Mitch immediately offer him a one-year minimum deal.
(3) In shame, Vlad leaves the team and agrees to a buyout on the cheap.
(4) Chris MIhm, who takes years to come back from freak ankle sprains, feels threatened by the presence of a rookie who comes back from a broken leg to play in the Tournament the same year and agrees to a similar buyout.
Shoot, you want toughness, add LMRAM and LMR to the bruins. At least we’ll finally have three guys on the squad who know how to set a decent Ben Howland screen.

66, I thought the same thing, but LMR never crossed my mind
As I was watching the Lakers just get worked inside by a tougher, more intense team, I was thinking, “man, the Lakers really need a NBA version of LRMAM, AA2, and LMR.” I never put 2 and 2 together to consider LMR/LRMAM being those NBA guys for the Lakers.
Now that you suggest it though, I’d love to see any either of those guys in a Lakers jersey next season. I’d love it to see them playing in Oakland for the Warriors, but Nellie is not exactly a, umm, defensive-oriented coach. LMR and LRMAM just don’t have the scoring to run with the Warriors, but boy, would I love to see B. Diddy throw an alley-oop to LRMAM.
Would just love it.
