Lute Bitter?  Noooooooo...

Lute blasts former recruit Negedu!

Star-divide

In this story from rivals.com, Lute had some nasty things to say about former recruit Emmanuel Negedu.  Among the things he said:

"I wanted him to have to sweat a little bit to understand that you make a commitment, you should be a person of your word," Olson told the newspaper. "But in the end, there was no way in the world I would have had him here.

Ouch!  If thats not enough, Lute goes on to say:

Olson also told the paper it was "not hard" to release Negedu: "There were some things that came out about his coachability – or his lack of coachability."

Negedu's former high school coach readily disagrees about his coachability, but who knows what the real truth is.  The thing that gets me is, why say anything negative about this situation at all?  More fuel to the fire that started ever since Lute went back to work is what I think.

The man is losing it

He’s taking his programs fall from grace very hard and is now lashing out at anyone and everyone. Kind of makes you wonder what history would have been like if not for Lavin.

Viagra Lute is just sad now...

...I mean, aside from the fact we call him Viagra Lute, I hope this finally shows people that Lute is really a no-class asshole. I don’t know how many times I read how “classy” Lute is/was. Everytime I heard him speak following a Mildcat loss all he did was whine, bitch, and moan about bad calls, cheap shots by the other team, or some other horseshit excuse. Not once have I ever heard him accept responsibility for defeat.

Makes me glad we are blessed to have CBH. When the Bruins go down, CBH beats himself over it. Takes full responsibility. Doesn’t blame the refs (even when the refs really do stick it to us) and when something like this happens (as it did when Stanbeck decided to leave and when Ryan Wright left), CBH wishes the kid well, tells everyone how great of a kid he is, and that he was a great contributor to the Bruins (even when they spent 95% of their time in the program on the bench).

Hold up CBH against Lute and you can really see how classy CBH is and how sad Viagra Lute is.

Ty, you've got to listen to Jim Healy talk about going the Leonard Tose route

But you’re right. Lute has nothing at all to lose by being gracious in this situation. But by being petulant, he comes of losing basically all of his remaining credibility. Coach Olson, you used to be something. Now, you’re just not relevant any more.

What blue-chipper will want to talk to Lute now?

by Fox 71 on Jun 19, 2008 7:59 PM PDT reply actions

Even if Viagra Lute still had credibility...

...what blue chip recruit in his right mind would want to go to Tucson and play for the Mildcats when they could play for CBH and a team that will annually win the Pac-10 and contend for the national title year-in and year-out. The Mildcats are good for maybe a tourney berth here and there. Not exactly the way to showcase your talent to the NBA. Run some flashy run-and-gun crap, play no defense, get owned by the Bruins twice a year, every year. Ask Chase how that worked out for his draft status.

RW, on the other hand, played himself into a lottery pick with tenacious defense and by listening to what CBH preaches.

Could it be, dare we say it..

..that UCLA has become “the class of the PAC 10”?

(Good post, by the way.)

God, it's great to be a Bruin!

Lute being Lute

What a pleasure it is to see Lute continue to bury his own program. I am still amazed that Arizona continues to attract the likes of Bayless, Budinger, Jennings. But, even with these top 10 recruits, Lute is still not able to get back to the top echelon of the Pac-10.

Just as norcald503 referenced, it does nobody any good to slam the kid on the way out the door. Let the future speak for itself. If the kid has issues in the future, Lute would be vindicated without having to say a word. It’s just a classless move for a Hall of Fame coach to slam a 17 year old kid.

Well, kids are kids

They’re young, impressionable teenagers. Lute likes to run his flashy run-and-gun crap. You get to put up a lot of numbers and make the highlight reels. The only problem is, as the C’s showed everyone, is if you don’t play D, you won’t get far. The Lakers lost for the simple reason is they have zero defensive intensity or toughness. Talk about letting another team just own you on the glass.

And that’s how the Mildcats play. And why they have been spanked by the CBH’s Bruins twice a year, every year. Our Bruins crash the glass, keeping them off the boards on both ends.

Flash gets recruits, so I’m not surprised some of these dopey kids are attracted to that. But flash doesn’t win you jack and eventually people will catch on when Viagra Lute keeps ending up in 3rd or 4th place, year-in and year-out.

I’m just glad are finally noticing how classless this guy really is. It’s bothered me for years how people shower him with praise for how classy he is, when he’s just a crybaby blowhard who refuses to accept responsibility for anything (look at how the O’Neill situation played out).

Just another example showing how lucky we are to have CBH.

This guy was bad enough before...

but now he is really losing it. I remember when I first knew he was heading downhill – a reporter asked him last season who would be the teams to beat it the Pac-10 and he said Washiginton, among others, but the list had one GLARING omission. UCLA! Hi Lute? I’m Earth. Have we met?

I don’t know if what Lute is saying is true about this kid, but to trash his reputation to the media just isn’t right. To me, I think he knows Negedu is a solid player and doesn’t want any good teams to pick him up. Lute’s being a sore loser and is trying to sabotage him. Just say “I’ts unfortunate that Negedu has decided to pursue other options, but we wish him the best” and leave it at that.

Things are only going to get wackier with Lute as time progresses. This is just the beginning…

Don't worry, DC, Jrue, JS, and AA2 will remind Lute of who we are...

...when the Bruins finish spanking the Mildcats on their floor again and then giving them another good beat down at Pauley. Just like this past season.

Lute’s pulled this crap before. Pretend the Bruins don’t exist. Pretend they’re some average team. I’m not too concerned. The Bruins will give the Mildcats the customary beat-down and then Lute will cry and whine about how the Bruins got all the calls and played dirty and never got called for anything. And we’ll smile and laugh.

How Lute "recruits"

I was thinking about how an ass-clown like Lute manages to get some elite recruits, considering how classless he is (esp. in light of his unnecessary rip on Negedu), when I stumbled across this on the WWL.

Apparently, Lute can only get elite prospects when they’re too stupid to not only not get into UCLA but struggle to stay eligible at that pinnacle of higher education, the University of Arizona.

Jennings said he will get his standardized test results back next Thursday. This is the third time he has taken a standardized test. Jennings said he was red-flagged for a jump in his score from the first to the second test. He said he didn’t know his scores.

Apparently Brandon can’t do well enough for the Mildcats. It follows, of course, there’s no way the kid would ever get into UCLA (or Stanford, but I don’t think they’ll be pulling guys without Trent there and with the cupboard totally bare).

But on the upside for Brandon, if things don’t work out and he can’t get admitted to UA, he’ll run off to Europe for a year:

Brandon Jennings, who signed a letter of intent to play at Arizona, is looking at the unprecedented option of playing overseas next season to get ready for the 2009 NBA draft if he’s not eligible to play for the Wildcats next season.

So, as I see it, either way we come out winners. Either Jennings is too dumb to play for the Mildcats and runs off to Europe, leaving Lute with umm, Chase, who we had no problem dealing with last year.

Or, if Jennings does make it into a Mildcat uniform, it makes one wonder how effective of an offense they’ll have with a starting PG who struggles even by UA’s standards. I mean, being a total idiot worked for Duh-von because, well, he wasn’t the floor general. His job was easy. Get rebound. Catch pass. Go to rim. Brandon is expected to run an offense.

Good luck with that one Lute. Makes me glad we got an intelligent, seasoned PG who knows how to take control of a game and run a well-executed offense (who, by the way, wasn’t good enough for Viagra Lute…bet he regrets that call now).

I lost a lot of respect for Lute

When he remarried so soon after the death of his wife. So much was made in the press about her presence in the program, and what a loss it was to the entire UofA basketball program. I remember they announced her seat would remain empty for all future games in memoriam and tribute to her. I found it very fitting.

Then, BAM! Lute’s getting married. I was pretty shocked.

Lost a lot of respect for the man. And, if its one thing I’ve learned through my involvement at UCLA and the incredible opportunity to hear Coach Wooden speak in person is that you cannot separate the character of the man from his on court actions to his off court actions. Lute was a formidable opponent. The Arizona game was one I anticipated with anxiety, but it has not lived up to expectations in recent years.
