UCLA football commit - QB Richard Brehaut - has blown up in Vegas.
From Jeremy Cracbtree at Rivals.com:
Brehaut dominates Elite 11 qualifer
More than 70 of the nation's top quarterbacks were in Las Vegas Saturday for the final chance to qualify for the prestigious EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp. It was no surprise several of the nation's top-ranked signal-callers stole the show. This included UCLA bound Richard Brehaut.
That's a teaser/blurb from a subsrcription based article on Rivals. But no worries. Billy Tucker of Scouts Inc. confirms Jeremy's top lines, in his Elite 11 regional camp report on ESPN:
Elite 11: Richard Brehaut (6-3, 205), Quarterback
(Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos)
This kid just has that "it factor" you can't put a finger on and the on-field maturity far exceeding a rising high school senior. Out of all the great quarterbacks who performed over the weekend, Brehaut, aside from maybe Nunes, was the most consistent and maybe the most physically and mentally ready to lead a college offense. He has that pose and moxie you just can't coach as well as great arm strength.Brehaut stepped into his throws all weekend utilizing his powerful body to consistently get great RPMs and zip on the football. Accuracy is the area that will need improvement at the next level, but this kid could challenge for early playing time wherever he ends up.
Seems to make sense why CRN and Chow didn't waste much time locking on this kid. Also interestingly Billy's post has a great review of Josh Nunes. Josh if you can recall finished second to Brehaut for the UCLA QB scholarship sweepstakes. Per Billy he like Brehaut lit up the Elite 11 regional camp in Vegas. As we wrote before, we wish Nunes luck. Hopefully the kid will get to shine at another big time program, that is not in our conference.
While we are on the topic of Brehaut possibly lighting up UCLA offense, here is an announcement from the Athletic department:
Fans attending the Sept. 1 football opener versus Tennessee will be treated to a fireworks show following the contest. The game is scheduled for 5:00 pm and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
As noted by lil eg not cs "we are going all out" for our opener.
GO BRUINS.

Hey SMQ & Y2,
This is a great example of what we have been talking about. The prior regime would have had to scratch and claw, just to get a shot at this kind of kid, before losing him to a more successful program. UCLA is a great school (yes, I’m biased here) and to a certain degree, it will recruit some good talent just on its own merits (as it did under Dorrell and Lavin). But when you add the leadership and personality of CRN, and the resume and reputation of OCNC, UCLA becomes a much more viable and attractive option to the top recruits.
As the staff starts filling the roster with better talent,, the results will follow – which will lure more top talent – which will lead to still better results – and so on and so on. This is why we are optimistic about this coach and this program, and why I am willing to give them 3-4 years to see what will happen.

So it’s pronounced just like it’s spelled.

How quickly things change...
Those clippings sure makes me feel good about the direction of our program. How could you not be excited about the fact that CRN not only had his choice between Brehaut and Nunes, but he actually had them competing on the field against each other for a scholarship?

Still sucks we couldn't offer both...
...would have loved to have gotten both Brehaut and Nunes. Never can have too much depth and talent at QB (as we painfully learned this past season).

Sure, but...
...both of them are starter material and it wouldn’t make any sense at all for either of them to follow the other to the same school. These guys don’t ride the bench. It’s very rare to have two superstud QBs in the same year, or even two years.
