WWL Predicts UCLA Goes Bowling in Hawaii
Mark Schlabach at the WWL, unlike his hack colleague Pat Forde, boldly predicts that UCLA will in fact go bowling, albeit in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
But of particular interest is that Schlabach predicts BYU to not just go bowling, but to be playing in the Fiesta Bowl. And yet, some shortsighted jackasses with their own hidden agendas (read: SMQ) cried and whined about Nestor's prediction that BYU would hammer us this season. Nevermind that certain hacks (read: SMQ) also ignored Steele's predictions that we'd have a down year since the Doofus left the cupboard totally empty.
Guess BN wasn't alone in expecting big things for Mendenhall and his Cougars this season. Now, of course, these WWL predictions are based on wild speculation and a superficial analysis of the current state of college football. But even this superficial reading of the college football landscape confirms what BN was saying months ago (during the coaching search following the ousting of the Doofus): that Mendenhall is the real deal and that, if he stayed at BYU, the Cougars would be a legitimate program again.
On the upside, even with a roster with serious holes, there's a realistic possibility that CRN, NC, and DW can somehow slap together enough wins to get us to Hawaii, although given the state of our roster, I'll believe it when I see it.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

If this year's team makes it to a bowl
there wouldn’t be much to complain about. Six wins and the possibility of a seventh would be a hell of a season for this group. It would require the players to make the most of their talents and some very good coaching.

Frosh Contributions
Any predictions of PT for the incoming freshmen shoring up some of our holes?
Also, have you heard of any eligability snags – a la Price?

The name I'm hearing most often
when it comes to freshman PT is Nelson Rosario. Rosario has exceptional physical ability and WR is one of the easier positions to step in and play right away. I expect him to get a solid number of snaps and while he may not catch a huge number of balls, he should stretch the field and have his catches go for big yards.
Outside of him, most of the freshman who will play will be in the secondary. Rahim Moore will push for time at safety, as could EJ Woods and Aaron Hester could play his way into the nickel role if he has a strong camp. Our lack of returning players in the secondary really makes all the spots, save ATV’s, up for grabs. Aundre Dean will get some touches out of the backfield, especially considering two of the guys ahead of him on the depth chart (Bell and Carter) are coming off ACL surgery.
I haven’t heard anything on eligibility issues and from the people I talked to, this class is one of the better academic classes they’ve had in a while so they don’t expect any. Prince’s issue was whether or not there was a scholie for him, not whether or not her was eligible.

From what I've heard
The coaches are concerned about his size and he’ll likely need a year in the weight room before he’s ready to get a significant amount of carries.

I doubt it
He’ll likely be 4th on the depth chart and with Bell and Carter coming off ACL surgery, he could get some touches this year.

Hey Rye
Do you know if the coaches are leaning more towards having Knox play as the 4th RB versus having Ramirez as the 4th back? Knox probably has more pure RB ability than Ramirez, but he could benefit from having a RS year to get stronger. Just curious how Ramirez fits into the mix. Thanks.

Right now I'm hearing Knox as the 4th RB
but keep in mind that the freshmen haven’t put the pads on yet and the coaches only saw returning players in spring ball, hardly an indicator of future success. Nothing is set in stone and especially until we’re a few weeks into training camp, everything is very, very fluid. If Knox shows he’s not even ready for a few carries a game or if Ramirez has a great camp then Knox could end up reshirting.
