Luc Is Officially Done At UCLA

Luc signed with an agent:

So for anyone holding on to glimmer of hope that LRMAM would still find a way back to Westood next season, it's officially over.

Luc has signed with agent Sam Goldfeder. Here is some more info. on Goldfeder, who per Draft Express works for Excel Sports Management. Goldfeder's lists of clients include our AA, Cedric Bozeman, Dijon Thompson, Jerome Moiso, LMR, and Gabe Pruit.

Speaking of Pruitt no wonder LRMAM  worked out with a familiar team:

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is in Boston, having just worked out for the NBA champion Boston Celtics. He told me he worked out for eight teams.

I can see Luc doing well as a Celtics given the commitment they showed to team defense. It could be a great fit.

Wherever he ends up, I am rooting for Luc to find the right fit. If he lands with a team that will allow him to showcase his strengths - defensive ferocity, lateral speed, and hustle around the rim - he will be very successful in the next level. Good luck Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc.

GO BRUINS.

I just don't see the point

why not wait until tomorrow night and see if he gets drafted then evaluate his options? It doesn’t benefit him at all doing it right now. Oh well, good luck Luc. Bruins everywhere will be rooting for you.

The reason for doing it before the draft ...

is that sometimes an agent can actually convince a team to draft a particular player during the draft.

It happens a fair amount, actually.

Agents will actually call a GM a few spots before a team is picking and advocate for their guy. Sometimes it works, too. Teams actually like being on the good side of agents, you never know when that agent will be representing another player you are involved with. Sometimes agents can swing a pick.

I can think of a few stories I’ve heard over the years. I heard that the Celtics once signed Tyus Edney because his agent also had Chris Mills (who they also signed). I heard Jordan Farmar’s agent did an incredible job selling Mitch Kupchak on taking him.

Agents don’t just negotiate, the better ones know the players, know the teams, know everyone’s needs and can really help a player in to the right situation.

The other thing is: Luc didn’t want to come back. Luc wasn’t coming back even if he wasn’t drafted. Luc doesn’t want to play college basketball anymore. So Luc had nothing to lose by hiring an agent and he had something potential to gain.

Go Bruins

Often players won't actually hire an afwnr

but have one picked out and use him as an advisor until he’s drafted. The agent can still make calls on his behalf, but the player keeps his eligibility. This is a big plus if a player goes undrafted because he can use the threat of going back to school as leverage. I just don’t see the point of making it official now. There’s more to gain by waiting IMO.

Glad to see I am not the only one burning hte post-midnight oil

here on the east coast. Not glad to see Luc cut that final lifeline to his collegiate eligibility, as unlikely as it was that it would have been used. Best of luck to Luc, hoping that I hear your name called some time tomorrow night!

I'm going to miss the Prince, but...

...I don’t think this will be too much of a hit to the program. Luc was a great defender, rebounder, and all-around great man and Bruin. I’m going to miss him a lot.

That said, I think this is probably the best thing to happen for Keefe. With Luc moving on to the next level it’ll force Keefe to step up his game (like he did in the tournament), which I think, long-term, is going to huge for our chances of success in March this season and next.

On the flip side, one could make the argument that having Luc for one more year would mean Keefe would continue to come off the bench for limited minutes, which in turn, would mean Keefe wouldn’t be able to blow up this year and leave early, which in turn, would mean we’d have Keefe back for the 09-10 season, giving Lane and Nelson a chance to get minutes without having the pressure of starting.

That said, I still think this will be better for Keefe and the program long-term. Luc was a great Ben Ball warrior, but I think he hit his peak, knew it, and decided now was just as good as next year to try his luck in the draft (and to avoid the chance of getting injured). He’ll be missed, but I’m very excited to see what Keefe can become this year with CBH using him as the probable starter (although I suppose it’s also very possible to see AA2 at PF and JMM at C to start).
