OJ Mayo's Grand Viral Marketing Scheme

Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N

So I started thinking- since OJ Mayo was able to orchestrate exactly where he went to school and by what terms, then maybe all of this recent media coverage in the OJ Mayo case is by design as well.  Perhaps all of this is actually a calculated ploy to try to get some endorsement deals.   Maybe it's the early stages of some viral marketing.  I did some digging around, and well....check this out: (click to enlarge)

Liked the ad, but is it really cool to say “Sickle Cell American Express”?

by impaulv on Jun 3, 2008 7:23 AM PDT reply actions

it’s a reference to the “non-profit” that issued a credit card that was used to purchase stuff for OJ Payo. it fits.

by UCLAbruin920 on Jun 3, 2008 8:08 AM PDT up reply actions

space was limited

I wish I could have written National Organization of Sickle Cell Prevention and Awareness Foundation, because in my mind, the name of the sham charity is only a half step removed from the “Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too.” But that would have run off the page, so I had to stick w/ just Sickle Cell instead (SC AmEx, for short).

SCAMex

Someone should make a picture of what that credit card would look like.

if i had any photoshop skills i would. it’s so fitting too because the AmEx cards have a trojan them.

i’ve never been able to tell the difference

It's easy to remember --

The trOJans are famous in history as being the most celebrated LOSERS ever. They stupidly let a horse into their city, and thus got beat, so naturally they made the horse their big mascot. And the guys who let the horse into the city made deans list.

And who did the Trojans lose to?

Spartans. That’s right, dudes in skirts lost to other dudes is skirts.

by bornagainbruin on Jun 4, 2008 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, it’s the dudes in skirts thing that makes it difficult to tell the difference.

They lost to the Greeks

re-enacted by the band every season at the RB the home game before SUC week. Thus the saying: “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.”

I particularly liked

the “2 assists.”

very nice touch.

by palafox on Jun 3, 2008 11:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Of course the two assists

We’re on air ball put backs…so he got “credit” for assists.

Grevious Error!

Last Purchase? Wasn’t he given the plasma TV.

(ROFL on this, though! Great job!)

Got the reference

but as a insomniac/BN fan, I just didn’t want anyone making some sort of racial/sickle cell connection and blowing it out of proportion… kinda like what I guess I just did… oops…

by impaulv on Jun 3, 2008 12:05 PM PDT reply actions

i understand. i dont think there was anything racial about it on insomniac’s part because he simply referenced the “charity” that issued the credit card; it could’ve been any charity. In fact, it was OJ and/or his affiliates chose to make a mockery of sickel cell by creating that sham organization.

Yes!

You read my mind…

You know the subject is slimey

when it takes a few lines to figure out that this is satire.

I would say

many of those lines are pretty close to being correct!
