UCLA Track and Field
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
As rich87 rightly points out in his post, the UCLA men and women Track & Field teams will be represented at next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships. I hope those more in the know than I can report on it. For example, is next week's competition for individual and/or team championships?
That aside, I'm posting a couple of highlights from the Pac-10 Championships held last month in Tempe, AZ.
First up, three 1st place and one 3rd place finishes by Bruins Greg Garza , Ingrid Kantola, Boldizsar Kocsor, and Darius Savage. Great upset by Kantola and nice finish by Savage, who is also a member of the football team.

Meanwhile, 110 Meter Hurdles Pac-10 Champion Kevin Craddock runs away from the field:

Track & Field fans, I'm sowing the seeds, take it from here!
Best of luck next week Bruin Tracksters!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Man...
I am moved by how classy and bright our student-athletes are. Who knew such excellence in character and athletic ability could go hand in hand?

Yes...CLASSY student athletes
Not like SuC’s Carol Rodriguez who could be seen yelling “f*&k UCLA” after winning her sprint.

NCAA Track & Field Championships
Next week’s meet will decide the individual and team championships. UCLA will have 26 athletes (13 men, 13 women) competing. That is 3rd highest, behind Texas A&M (33) and LSU (30).
Unfortunately, points are not awarded for depth. Instead, each winner of an event receives 10 points for the team, with then next 7 placers also receiving points (8,6,5,4,3,2,1).
On the men’s side, based on qualifying results into the regionals, LSU and Texas A&M would be the teams to beat. Not sure on the women’s side.
However, they have the meet for a reason. Anything can happen, as everybody starts on the same starting line regardless of previous qualifying times next week.
Go Bruins !!

Shoot
Tele … is there any way you repost the first video? Somehow I lost it when I bumped it. My bad.

Great stuff Tele...
That’s the first I’d seen of that Craddock video. He looks ready, to me, to win the NCAA title. He’ll have an old high school rival, Jason Richardson of South Carolina, to beat, but it sure looked like he a lot left in the tank.
BTW, the only casualty we suffered at the Regional Qualifying meet was indeed Ingrid Kantola. We still have at least two other lady vaulters going to nationals…
Track and Field News has a formcharts (their predictions) on how the top 10 people of
each event might finish. They have UCLA men way behind LSU and Flor. St., but indeed lots of things can happen and when we have the number of qualifiers we do across a wide spectrum of events (hurdlers, vaulters, jumpers, throwers) it does give more opportunities to pick up points. LSU and FSU are dominant in the sprints and relays, events that can go south fast with a false start, a pulled hamstring in the prelims or a dropped baton (happens every year).
Here’s the links to their formcharts:
They have Craddock 3rd in the hurdles (6 points)
Pole Vaulter Dustin Deleo 7th (2 points)
Caulfield and Darius Savage 6th and 7th in the shot put (5 points)
Greg Garza 1st in Discus (10 points)
Boldi 6th in the hammer (3 points)

My prognostication is much more optimistic but… I’ll elaborate more when the official entry sheets/declarations come out later this week.
