Bruins in Jacksonville: Minicamp Update (Breazell a Jag?)

Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N

Good Morning Bruins!

As some of you may know, I'm the Jacksonville Jaguars blogger for SB Nation .  I'm also a recently converted UCLA fan because of the great players the Jaguars have picked up from your fine institution.  With the Jaguars having minicamp this weekend, I thought I'd drop by and give you a quick update on a few of your guys on our roster.

Brandon Breazell, Wide Receiver: Brandon's in town for a "tryout".  No contract has been extended and to be honest he's got a pretty uphill battle to make the roster.  Personally, I'd cut Matt Jones to give Brandon a shot.  Jacksonville has VERY good luck with undersized players from UCLA, and it would be great to see Jones-Drew and Breazell on the field together.  So far he's been quiet during camp, but I'll be sure to pay a bit more attention now that I know he's in town.

Maurice Jones-Drew: Looks great.  He had a few plays that had it been "real football" would have been 80-yard touchdowns.  Jones-Drew will take on a larger role in the running game as his kick return duties have been cut.  MJD is taking lots of reps in the passing game with short quick passes that put him in open space.

I'm sure you all are as excited to see MJD outperform Reggie Bush by a huge margian, this trend will continue in 2008 as he takes even more carries.

Marcades Lewis: This is a guy who's been nicked up through the offseason, but practiced with the team for the first time during minicamp.  His blocking is outstanding considering his hype as a pass-catching TE.  This year expectations are high as his coverage should be a little lighter with the improvements at receiver for the Jaguars.  I'm taking a wait and see approach, but he's got all the potential for a breakout season.

Enjoy!

-Chris

lewis and breazell

chargers fan myself, but definitely rooting for the Jags w/ all these bruins. i LOVE how mojo drew is godly and reggie bush is spending more time thinking about court than football.

lewis is a great physical talent. if he gets healthy, he’ll be a real solid TE.

breazell….hard to tell. he had essentially no QB during his time as a starter. he can make a great catch though, and could have a lot of upside. hopefully he’ll break through!

Funny

I’m a recent UCLA grad(Officially on Friday) that converted to being a Jaguars fan while following Maurice Jones-Drew and Marcedes Lewis.

There's a 1/100 chance

that Brandon makes the roster, but this could be a very important couple weeks for him. While his chances to make the Jags are slim, if he plays well then he could get a chance with another team. I hope he does because he was one of the few players who brought it every single game last year and competed at the highest level he possibly could.

If he can make it to training camp,

He’s got a good shot. Brandon is hurt by the absence of roster exemptions from NFL Europa. Teams can only have 80 players under contract going into August, where they used to have a few extra spots from guys sent overseas. The Jaguars tend to sign their top draft picks right before camp, so there’s a chance that if he makes a strong impression he can go to camp with the Jaguars.

Once there, he’s got a chance to get some time in front of NFL scouts and hopefully make a play or two in a preseason game, then be picked up or placed on the practice squad for another team.

I’m rooting for him though!

I'm A Recently Converted

Jags fan for the same reasons. Thanks so much for the report! I’m particularly encouraged by the news about ML—his time has come, I believe, and if he stays healthy, they are going to be even more fun to watch than last year. Post Script: When Jacksonville came to KC last season, I sat in the stands wearing my MJD jersey and got to see them destory the hapless Chiefs. It was excellent!
(Just to set the record straight, I have never been a Chiefs fan, so I’m no traitor.)

Go Jags!!!

I, like other Bruin fans, started paying more attention to the Jags when Marcedes and Maurice ended up there. At first I was really just watching them, but then I became a fan of the whole team. I love watching Garrard and Fred Taylor too. The way I was rooting for them in the playoffs, you would have thought I was a die hard Jags fan. Maybe I am???

GO Bruins, GO Jags!!!

You know

I didn’t know I was a Jag’s fan until someone told me I was Rashean Mathis during a pick up game of football, my friend claimed that it was my team. However at that time I was sort of a GB fan which I still am but to be honest I was more of a Favre fan. Even though Favre has retired I still like the team and root for them unless they are playing the Jagwires. I would have denied being a Jag fan until I realized I wasn’t just watching the UCLA Alumi. I like JDR and the teams hard nose football, and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of Garrard and Taylor.
