Brehaut Has The Southland Buzzing
From Eric Sondheimer in the LA Times:
Quarterbacks Richard Brehaut of Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos and Josh Nunes of Upland are throwing passes with so much power and accuracy this summer that some UCLA and Tennessee fans probably wish they'd skip their senior years and enroll immediately at their future colleges.
On Friday at La Verne Bonita, Brehaut and Nunes were on adjacent fields playing in a seven-on-seven passing tournament, and it was fun going back and forth to watch two quarterbacks who I'd label as can't-miss college prospects.
Both have raised their skills to an elite level, and fans of UCLA and Tennessee have started showing up to see what they'll offer when they arrive in Westwood and Knoxville, respectively, in 2009.
Let me provide some insight. Now I understand why UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow made the decision to offer a scholarship to the 6-foot-3 Brehaut. A year ago at the same Bonita tournament, I thought Brehaut was a quarterback with promise but hardly a standout.
He has improved dramatically in terms of arm strength and accuracy.
"It's totally different," Brehaut said of his throwing power.
The ball bursts out from his arm with speed and precision.
"I think it's natural growth," Coach Tom Martinez said.
What's scary is that Brehaut also can run, and Martinez has plans this fall to turn him loose with "quarterback counters, quarterback sweeps and quarterback options."
Again it is worth mentioning that Rick Neuheisel and Norm Chow had Brehaut and Nunes compete directly against each other for one scholarship spot slotted for the QB in the class of 2009. Simply amazing.
Nunes sound like a terrific kid and a great get for the Tennessee Volunteers. While Brehaut once again has me thinking of number 18. It will be a great fall not just watching our football program develop in Westwood, but also track recruits such as Brehaut who has the Southland buzzing about what he could do at UCLA.
GO BRUINS.

I'm not sure if we made the right pick
in going with Brehaut over Nunes, but we got ourselves a stud. Both guys are going to be very good and Nunes may end up the better QB, but you can’t go wrong with either guy. I know people who have seen both and they’re split about who’s better, but all agree both are going to be very good. I’m just glad Nunes chose to go to the SEC so we don’t have to deal with him. I’m leaning towards Brehaut because Chow picked him, but you never know. It’ll be fun in a few years to look back and compare the two.

Like I said...
...a couple of times, I would have loved us to have both guys. I know it wasn’t feasible and that it’d suck for one guy to sit behind the other when they’re both starting QB material for a top program, but it would have been great.
A guy can dream, right? Good luck to Nunes at Rocky Top (unless he’s playing us) and I trust NC made a good pick with Brehaut.

I hope they don't go crazy letting him run
I’d prefer to see him in lots of shotgun formation behind the LOS.
Let’s keep him healthy to get ready for UCLA.

Brehaut vs Nunes
I think that Brehaut is a little more athletic. This means to me that he is a little more mobile not that he needs to run with the ball. They both seem like very nice kids, good friends and they both love football. I hope they both do well and face eachother in a BCS bowl game someday. Oh Yea!
