Lorenzo Mata-Real to play on the Lakers Summer League team!
Bumped. Congrats LMR. Keep it going. GO BRUINS. -N
I just saw the following status update on MySpace from Lorenzo Mata-Real:
Lorenzo Mata-Real made the Lakers Summer League team and is headed to Vegas today... Just Now.
Mood: confident
Congratulaions to LMR! Hopefully the Summer League will serve him well to showcase his Ben-Ball toughness. Though I'm not holding out a lot of hope of him suiting up in the purple and gold next season (simply for lack of space), I'd like to think that this league could provide the springboard he needs to make a roster in the NBA next season. GOOD LUCK!
UPDATE: Former Ben Ball warrior Cedric Bozeman also made the Lakers summer league team. Congrats Ced! GO BRUINS. -N

Well, I expect Turiaf to go north...
...which means the Lake Show would be in need of a tough inside man who can play defense and grab rebounds.
It’s a win-win. GSW gets Turiaf and LMR gets to suit up for Phil. Would be awesome. Just awesome.

Russell Westbrook looking great so far in Orlando
From ESPN reports:
For all those raised eyebrows and puzzled experts who questioned Russell Westbrook’s being chosen fourth overall in last month’s NBA draft, a scout monitoring the Orlando Pro Summer League had this to offer Thursday: “He’s flat-out the best player here not named Kevin Durant.”

Duh-von Jefferson
I can’t believe he even made the summer league team. I hope LMR and Bozeman rough him up a little bit; he could learn a lot from those guys.

WOO HOO!
Let three things be known:
(1) Ben Howland can honestly say that he got FOUR of his guys to join the pros this year.
(2) If any single one of us forty years from now could look back and say to his kids and grandkids, “Yeah, I played a little ball—even made it to three Final Fours and got to play for the Lakers in their Summer Pro League,” then we know we’ll have REALLY gotten far on the court.
(3) If former Gonzaga Bulldog Ronny Turiaf is not re-signed by the team, and/or Cedric can avoid injury while playing good old-fashioned, Watchdog of Westwood defense, don’t be surprised if either one or BOTH make the squad, or at least the Laker’s D-League rosters.
BRAVO to LMR and CB.

I can't see Ced making the squad
between Odom (or Artest if the rumors are true), Ariza, Walton and Vlad we have enough 3’s. If he has a strong summer league he could get a training camp invite with someone else though and possibly make their team.

Not Ced as a SF, but as a GUARD.
It’s very much a long shot, but consider…
(a) In his first year under CBH, Ced led the Pac-10 in assists. Good passing in CBH’s structured motion offense can translate easily to the tri (look at Farmar).
(b) The current Laker rotation guards run 6-7, 215 (Kobe); 6-6, 190 (Sasha); 6-1, 200 (Fisher) and 6-2, 200 (Farmar). Phil likes big, long guards.
(c) The Lakers need someone who can body up against strong, quick guards. Deron Williams tore the Lakers up; Paul Pierce had no one of comparable size to guard him when Kobe was on Allen. A 6-6, 210 lb. defensive-skilled guard may be just what the Lakers need, like a young Bulls-style Ron Harper.

I don't think he has the quickness to guard the 2's in the NBA
In his other NBA stops (Charlotte and Atlanta I believe) he played as a 3 and did a good job guarding the 3’s. I saw a few of his games and when he got caught on a switch and ended up on a guard he got killed. He was effective as a 3, but I can’t see him as a 2. Maybe he’s worked out some more and gotten quicker though. I hope so because it’d be great to see him in the purple and gold.
