I am little late in catching up with this news. Earlier this week the Niners waived Drew Olson to make room for former Miami QB Kyle Wright (who if my memory serves correct received his first college offer from UCLA). More on Niners Nation for all those Niners fans on BN.

This is not the first time Niners gave a former Bruin QB shot to make the team. Previously Wayne Cook and of course Cade Mcnown got their shots to make the Niners teams without success. Good luck to Drew. He is a good kid. GO BRUINS.

Darn...

I knew Drew was signed late last season due to the injuries with Smith and Dilfer, so he was actually suited up for the season finale behind Shaun Hill and someone else. I hope he gets another shot with another team. I think he will, seeing that the Panthers and Niners signed him to their practice squads last season when they were short on the QB depth.

Kyle Wright?

um, Ok.

I have great memories of Drew’s Season with all those great comeback games. That was a great year even if we had those disappointing losses; non more disappointing than the loss to South Central. I remember thinking at the time, “Hey, this new coach is really getting the ball moving. If we can play this well now, wait until recruiting picks up.”

In hindsight, Drew looks just that much better. I hope he not only get signed soon, I would love to see him replicate some of that success on the next level. If he can play like that on the next level I could easily see some fans getting excited about their teams.

Good Luck Drew!

Kyle Wright is a local kid

Wright went to high school in Danville, so maybe the Niners are just trying to give a local guy a shot. Hopefully Olson can catch on elsewhere (Vikings seem like a good fit to me- I’m sure he could beat out J.D. Booty)

Niners' like the local 3rd stringers apparently

Wright is the 3rd lower-tier QB that the 49ers have signed recently from the East Bay (after Olson – out of my dad’s high school, btw – and Ken Dorsey out of Miramonte HS -Orinda).

The Niners sure seem to like former UMiami quarterbacks from Contra Costa County: Wright, Dorsey, and Gino Torretta (Pinole Valley HS/1992 Heisman winner).
