What Have We Become?
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
First of all, HT to "Puffdaddy" at Bruinzone for the story.
Puffdaddy came across an article from a Montgomery, Alabama newspaper. The article laments Auburn's schedule, taking them to task for playing Furman. "There are 50 different teams around the country whose name on the schedule would have garnered just as much respect as West Virginia's. And against more than half of them, AU would have walked in as the favorite. In some cases, it would've been a big favorite," Josh Moon wrote.
Then there was this:
But not against WVU. In all likelihood, the game will be a pick-em in the eyes of Vegas. But it certainly won't feel like one to the folks in Morgantown. After all, it will be the Big East against the big, bad SEC.
Why put your program in that sort of situation? It's no-win.
Why not play a has-been that still carries some name recognition, like Miami, Nebraska or UCLA? Or why not play a middle-of-the conference team, like Virginia, Colorado or Oregon State.
All of them mean as much on the schedule as West Virginia, and most of them won't be nearly as good.
For what it's worth, Puffdaddy's Bruinzone post was called "Karl Dorrell's Coaching Legacy."
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Ouch
but that is the current state of UCLA Football. Kinda alarming to me that somebody down south mentions us with Miami & Nebraska yet our own “alleged” fans thought we should “aspire” for 7-9 wins each year and go to some mediocre bowl game. SHOCKING! Thankfully there are people like us who KNOW the rich history of UCLA Football and where it should sit in the world of college football.
Programs go through cycles for various reasons. Look at FSU, Penn St., Bama, A&M, prior LSU & prior sc for example. We’ve been in a rut but I’m 100% confident that in due time, we’ll be back and hopefully there will be some other person writing about some has-beens like “Univ. X, Univ. Y & sc”. Then….I think there will be balance to the force. :P

We Were There In Basketball, Too
We will overcome the CTS damage just as we overcame the lizard’s.
Come on, Auburn, schedule us for games in 2 or 3 years.

That hurts, but it's true
Oh and ‘66 we have no room on the schedule until 2013 and in that season we’re playing Nebraska so I doubt we’ll play them then. Maybe 2014?

Whenever I hear this
I point out to people the list of people we have beaten in recent years: USC (twice), Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Tennessee. If they really feel that way, they should schedule us.
This is a big reason I believe we are going to beat Tennessee. We are a great character team. Our football team has always risen to the occasion against big names or highly ranked teams. It is the small, or mediocre teams we struggle against, Utah, Fresno State and Notre Dame in recent memory.
Mr Dan Guerrero, if you are reading this, make my heart sing; schedule Auburn in the coming years.

Don’t forget about Oklahoma during the Adrian Peterson years who is now ripping to shreds NFL defenses.

You're going waaay back
Looks like you went back 14 years for that list. Alabama and Michigan were before the famous Bush-Gore election. USC twice? Only if you go back to 1998. Same with Texas. Ohio State was 2001. Tennessee was in Peyton Manning’s first college game in 1994.
Anyway, that’s basically ancient history and exactly the point of the poster in Auburn.

Not that far back
I arrived in Westwood in fall of ‘97 we played all those teams since then. Although you are probably right about Tennessee. As for beating South Central twice, there was 2006 the 13-9 game. (which is where the photo I use as my avatar was taken) And two year before that 2004 when SC influenced refs stole two legitimate fumbles from us. One of which was a wide open run into the end zone if not for the ref’s whistle. I know that in the history books it is down as a loss, but I was there. We beat those thugs fair and square.
How bad was it? The SC fans/alumni to the right and left of us apologized and admitted we were robbed. It didn’t keep them from celebrating their first National Championship under Pete Carroll a few weeks later, I’ll bet.
PS: SmartGuy, I can’t believe I missed OU you are right. Another great game I was blessed to see in person.

I agree
What have we done in the past 5 years to earn even a smidgen of respect? Get blown out by Utah? The humiliating loss to Notre Dame? Oh wait, I know, how could I forget about that huge bowl win over perennial powerhouse Northwestern?
I love us and am incredibly psyched about the new regime…but we have to earn respect on the field.
