Dylan Rush Signs Boxing Deal, Looks For MMA Career

PrintFormer UCLA football player Dylan Rush won't be wrestling for another school, rather he has signed a boxing contract and plans to go after a mixed martial arts career.
According to the Honolulu Advertiser (Rush's hometown paper)"
"I just stopped enjoying playing football and I didn't want to do it anymore," said Rush, who was competing at fullback after making the move from defensive end in the spring. "I was going to accept a wrestling scholarship to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, but then I got offered a contract to box."
Rush, who earned Advertiser All-State recognition as a junior and senior while playing for Konawaena, also captured three wrestling and two judo state titles in his prep career.
Rush hopes to parlay the boxing contract into a future career in mixed martial arts.
"The interest in MMA started really early on," said Rush, who is 6 feet 4 and 250 pounds. "It's always been something that really interested me and I've kind of always reveled in the single-combat sports."

Good luck to Dylan? I can’t really criticize someone who’d rather get pummeled in a ring for a few bucks than take a scholarship to a great school and play a team sport. But hey, better to free up a scholarship than do something he doesn’t like. The thing is, the last football player who tried this got his ass kicked pretty badly. I hope he fares better…

and you’ll see that Rush will continue to attend UCLA. As far as the boxing, don’t be shocked if he does quite well. He has an extensive martial arts background and comes from a boxing family. His grandfather is in the S.African boxing hall of fame. I know he’s studied boxing since he was little and can work a speed bag. He’s incredibly fit, especially for a guy that big. I’m betting he’ll be the ‘Boxing Bruin’. This is going to be interesting.
