LMR a Laker?!
I happened to be on Facebook a few minutes ago, and there was a status update from LMR on the right hand column (timed about 40 minutes ago) that read, in relevant part:
"Oh yea I'm about to be a LAKER!!!"
I know a lot of people on BN would love for LMR to be a Laker, so if you have any information, pass it along.

This could be the one thing...
... that would get me geeked up about the Lakers again. I like Jordan and Trevor and all, but adding LMR to the mix might just do it.

I hope this happens for LMR
He deserves to be recognized for his hard work and unselfish team play.
There is that old adage that hard work trumps talent when talent doesn’t work hard. And, should this signing happen for LMR it will be a great testament to that saying. The Lakers would be smart to pick up LMR.

COme on Zo
Don’t be jerking us around. Seeing Lorenzo in the P&G would make my week. No team with Lorenzo can be said to lack for toughness.

I'd buy that jersey
in about one millisecond.

He's going to be playing for their summer league team

If anything...
...LMR would help toughen up Pau, who was pitifully soft against Boston. The Lake Show is in desperate need of a tough-guy enforcer, who will go in, get dirty, get some boards, and play some tough defense.
Personally, I’d love to see LMR up here playing for Nellie, although I know LMR is the exact opposite of the Warriors’ run-and-gun, hoist lots of shots, play no defense concept. But I’d really love to get myself a Warriors jersey with Mata-Real on the back.
Although, truth be told, if LMR makes it with the Clips or Lakers, I just might end up with an LA jersey in my closet. If he ends up with the Kings, well, sorry ‘Zo, no way I’m wearing purple and black.

I don't think LMR can provide much help to any NBA team
in a game, but he could be a big help in practice. Let him be the 12th guy on a roster and the hustle and energy he brings to every practice will keep everyone on their toes and bringing 100% to every practice.

Actually
even as a 15th man on the roster who doesn’t suit up he’d be a help.

In all likelihood, you're right...
...the odds are against LMR. But, then again, people told David Eckstein he’d never make it on the next level. And aside from having a pair of World Series rings, he has one of those nice World Series MVP trophies.
I know the comparison isn’t great, but I’m holding out that LMR’s heart, determination, and pure grit helps him make it.

Just give him a chance...
(actually norcal, Eckstein’s a great analogy – good call)
Yeah, we know it’s a long shot that he’ll make a roster.
But at the same time, are there any of us who have watched LMR and know what he’s about who wouldn’t want this guy on our team? Would any of us trade him for a more talented player who doesn’t have his heart?

Well, I thought...
...that since baseball is a sport where there are a lot of very short guys who are successful (Eckstein, Marcus Giles, Tim Lincecum to name a few) that it was not as big of a hurdle as is it for a basketball player.
Baseball, I think, is a game where baseball IQ is a bit more important than basketball IQ is; basketball, while it requires basketball IQ, is a game more based on pure athleticism. There’s lots of athletic guys in the league who are clueless. But not many smart basketball IQ guys without a ton of athleticism (unless they’re 7’0” plus).
But in terms of heart, determination, and grit, LMR and Eckstein, I thought were the perfect fit.
And since we’re talking about heart, determination, grit and playing the game the right way, I want to throw out the name of another Bruin who took a while to make a splash in the big leagues, my own personal favorite (since I’m an A’s guy, although he’s with Arizona now):
Eric Byrnes.

Have fun in the summer league
As a Laker fan I don’t think he could add anything to the NBA roster, his skills and size are too limited to be a contributor. As a Bruin, I hope he does well in the summer and someone gives him a shot, likely an overseas team.

nba potential?
Has: great defensive ability, tremendous work ethic, experience playing against bigger guys, championship level experience, team mentality, top-level blocking ability, very short-range soft hook shot.
Lacks: FT-shooting, longer-range offense, NBA-type offensive skills, height.
I’ve seen him routinely drain 20 footers in pre-game warm-ups. I refuse to put a ceiling on where Mata-Real could end up in basketball. If he gets a chance, you know he’ll do whatever he can to take advantage of it, and while he’s as un-flashy as it gets, he may yet end up as an NBA contributor.
Also…
In his first year at UCLA, I used to say that Mata played Mata-dor defense. That is, as soon as a guy ran at him, he would just step out of the way. But boy did that change. Dramatic improvement is always a good sign.

why not?
if ben wallace can be an allstar in the league (even though it may not seem that way lookin at him play now) why cant LMR be at least a contributor off the bench if nothing else? go to uclabruins.com and they have him listed at 6’9 and 240 lbs, which is exactly what nba.com has listed for wallace. I can see LMR step into a similar role with a team like the Lakers that needed an extra guy to body up with a Kendrick Perkins and especially with a Leon Powe who LMR has experience guarding whenever UCLA and Cal played. So i have to disagree when ppl say he cant add anything to a roster. Put him in the game when u need some toughness and rebounds, he might not get you the points all the time, but the boy can find a place in the nba.

You Go, 'Zo!
I would just add that LMR has had the advantage of a four-year basketball education with CBH. Do the Lakers need another flashy coverboy superstar, or a defense-minded, tough-as-nails, never-quit man?
