[UPDATED] More Bruins Punch Tickets For Beijing
From the official site:
Bruin alum Amy Acuff qualified for her fourth Olympic Games on Friday evening as the high jumper finished second at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR with a clearance of 6-4.
Acuff becomes the fourth Bruin track star to qualify for Beijing, joining Monique Henderson (4x400m relay pool), Suzy Powell Ross (discus) and Sheena (Johnson) Tosta (400m hurdles).
In addition to those four Jon Rankin will be running for a spot in the 1500 m tomorrow in Eugene.
Meanwhile, Kim Vandenberg qualified for the team as "relay contender."
Again for those who are following our Bruin Olympians closely, don't be shy to put up posts, fanshots, updating the progress of all of our Bruins attempts to get to Beijing.
GO BRUINS.
UPDATE - N: As Rye noted in the comments, Jessica Cosby punched her ticket for Beijing and in the process hammered down a new Olympic trials record:
Jessica Cosby placed her stamp in Olympic Trials history on Saturday as the Bruin alum and current women's throws coach unleashed a record throw to win the hammer competition and earn a spot on the 2008 Olympic team. Cosby tossed an Olympic Trials record mark of 232-0 (70.72) on her first throw, breaking Erin Gilreath's 2004 record (70.42m). Cosby won the competition by nearly five feet over her nearest competitor.
Also joining Cosby, former Bruin volleyball star Elaine Young, who secured her spot in the U.S. beach volleyball team. Congrats to Jessica and Eliane.
GO BRUINS.

I'm Leaving for China Tomorrow
I’ll be travelling around for 6 weeks, culminating with the first week of the Olympics, so I’ll be sure to cheer us on. UCLA should really orchestrate a photo-op of all their athletes at one of the Beijing are UCLA Stores: http://www.uclastore.com.cn/

EY
My favorite women’s VB player, ever since I dug one of her hits in a ridiculous dorm tournament game at Sunset Rec, giving me something to brag about for years (19 and counting) after – never mind that her team still killed us. I’ve seen her at a couple AVP events out here and have said a very quick “Hey EY, Go Bruins!” and tipped my script UCLA hat. To this, she has always stopped for a quick chat and to say how much she loved her UCLA days. Very cool.
