Tennessee-UCLA: Pregame Guesses Volume I
UPDATE: IF YOU JUST PUT "JOHNSON" IN THE COMMENTS AS YOUR CONTEST ENTRY, I'M GOING TO ASSUME YOU MEANT DOMINIQUE JOHNSON. IF YOU WANT JERRY JOHNSON, BE SURE TO LET US KNOW. -- ACHILLES
```
Let's start this post off with a major league Hat Tip to Halos Heaven.
Halos Heaven is, of course, this network's blog for the Los Angeles Angels. I'm an Angels fan and became a reader of that blog this season. I wish I had the time to post there, they do a real good job covering the team and there are a lot of good fans there posting.
What does that have to do with the Bruins?
Well, I'm stealing borrowing plagiarizing adapting one of their game day rituals for the Bruin football season. See, before every game, they ask readers for their pregame guesses. Earlier this week they asked:
7:05 PM on FSNW - Pregame Guesses:
- # of Angel offensive strikeouts
- # of Angel defensive double plays
- # of HR in game, both teams combined total
Another time this week they asked:
Pregame Guesses: Name 3 Angels who will safely reach base twice in the game.
And another time:
Pregame Guesses:
- # of Twins batters recording a Plate Appearance in 1st inning
- # of Angels batters recording a Plate Appearance in 1st inning
- Over/ Under 17.5: # of pitches thrown by the Angels Starting Pitcher in the 1st inning.
For every answer you get right, you get a point. So, you can get three points for every game. After every game, they put up the results and there are season long standings.
We decided, we're going to play the game, too.
For every UCLA game this season, I'll put up three questions about the upcoming game. A day or two later, I'll tally up the week and I'll try to get the season standings posted, too. We haven't talked it all through yet, but maybe we'll get some prizes for the end of the season -- we'll see what we can do.
If we're having fun with it, I'll do the basketball games, too.
So, here are your Pregame Guesses for UCLA-Tennessee:
- Name a UCLA player who will catch at least three passes (you may answer "none")
- Total rushing yards (within 10) for Kahlil Bell
- Name a UCLA player who makes an interception
Just put your answers in THE SUBJECT LINE of your response to this thread. For example, the subject line of your post might be:
Everett, 65, Moore
or
Austin, 70, Verner
Have fun, Go Bruins (and Go Angels, too)
But A, you need to start stealing, I mean, borrowing stuff from the Rays, who may well just get home-field advantage for the playoffs. The Rays are playing now like the Angels played earlier in the year.
Paulsen, 100, Verner
Paulsen is such a good target for the kind of game I think Chow is going to want to play…
Paulsen, 90, Moore
Bell, 110, Moore
Let’s see how far this optimism takes us this year…I think Moore will get burned badly on 1 play, but he’ll make it up with an INT later.
Maybe
That was the rationale I almost used to pick Norris.
I really like this idea, it brings more fun to the BN!
Go Bruins!
P.S. Why don’t we have a Bruins Nation Tailgate Party Setup? Any Ideas?
Its interesting to look at what everyone else put. It kind of gives us a barometer of which players have high expectations on them. It was hard to pick between Paulsen and Bell for three receptions, but I figure they both will. As for picks, I think Verner is the most capable, but they might know that and purposefully try to throw away from him so it could be someone else.
Everett will be covered most likely
Kahlil shouldn’t have problem rushing
won’t throw it to ATV’s side, and Moore will have to back up Norris
GO BRUINS!!! CHEER LIKE CHAMPIONS!!!
Paulsen(he might be open the most since the UT secondary is so fast)
87(Ray Carter’s going to get carries)
Rahim Moore(they’re going to pick on him most because he’s a freshman)
by bruin95 on Aug 31, 2008 7:41 PM PDT 0 recs
I thought Moore is playing strong safety?
Also, who’s going to be the third cover man in the nickel package this year?
Bell, 70, Norris
Chow loves getting his playmakers in space, so expect a lot of quick, short passes to Bell in the flat.
Bell will get the most carries, but since he is coming off an injury the coaches will be a little conservative in how hard they work him. Also, since I believe Bell will be catching some passes, that may mean a few less touches from handoffs. 70 yards.
Considering ATV’s abilities and reputation, the much less experienced Norris will be thrown at all day long. He may lack experience, but he makes it up with athleticism, maturity, and a sense of urgency to his career. He will prove that he is up to the task with strong coverage and a pick.
Bell, 98, none
I’m feeling good the night before kickoff. Taking the wife and two of my three baby bald eagles to the greatest venue in college football for a Labor Day BBQ. Just got back from Bruin Woods so I’m truly bleeding everything blue and gold. I plan on posting on that experience later.
Take the Bruins and the points and the under if you’re a betting person. That is where my $ is.
Win, lose or draw…. I’m just glad the day is here finally. It’s a great day Nation. Embrace it wherever you are!!
Bo Bruins!!!
