Just two more days till Bruins get to fly in the Rose Bowl:

While we wait for the debut of Rick Neuheisel era at the Rose Bowl, there are lots of CFB action to keep track of and/or enjoy on the first Holy Saturday of 2008.

I am personally interested in checking out Rich Rodriguez's debut as the Michigan coach against Utah (the game is at Ann Arbor). What will happen in the game between Alabama and Clemson? How will Tyrone Willingham and Jake Locker will handle themselves in their pressure packed season opener against Oregon (playing without Nate Costa). You can check out the full schedule/scoreboard over here on WWL.

Enjoy the games ... and fire away with your thoughts/reactions ... here - your online Bruin watering hole - on Bruin Nation.

GO BRUINS.

East Carolina - Va Tech

Great game going on at WWL. ECU giving Va Tech all they can handle (14-14).

Uhm I spoke early

xtra point blocked – 16-13 Va Tech. Beamer Ball in action (goes to show how important special teams is – hello coach Gantz!)

VT looks terrible

At least in what I’ve seen.

Aside from this game, though, it’s your usual first week drubbings on the slate. Hopefully the underdogs come back out at 12:30.

Both teams look very sloppy

Yeah but I am surprised at how sloppy Tech has looked. ECU is still in this.

Must be the 1st saturday of college football season

because Nestor is on fire. BOOM, post to the front page. BAM, a quick hitter in the fan shots. Think he is done-NOT SO FAST SWEETHEART, he just went deep with a link on the fanposts for a touchdown!

College football season is here! College football season is here! The old ball koach is shedding a tear out of the corner of his eye at this very moment as Bowling Green just went in for a pick 6!

Thank God it is football season! And thank the internets for Nestor and the other band of misfits that make up the BN community.

lol ...

Don’t look now ECU might have a chance to pull off an upset. They are getting the ball back down 2, with about 2 mins to go.

Wow

Never mind!!

ECU giving Va Tech their own dose of “Beamer Ball”!!

ECU = UCLA?

I see a lot of shades of our game here. VT is a more defensive team IMO, and is ranked about where Tenn is. ECU is a mid level team that gutted it out and used what they had to get it done. I think that Tenn has a better offense than VT and that they will not make quite as many mistakes (unless forced by us), but I see us in a similar situation, and they pulled it off. Can we? GO BRUINS!

Similar situation

But Tenn has lot more game breakers on both sides of the ball.

Meanwhile

UVa looks like a Dorrellian football team.

yikes

U$C looks frighteningly good.

UVa

is supposed to be the worst team in a mediocre ACC. And Al Groh is getting canned at the end of this season. Don’t be too impressed. UVa is a joke.

Ouch

Cougar fans are already booing the new Wazzu coach’s team (down against Oklahoma St 0-10).

Michigan looking mediocre against Utah.

Michigan-Utah - great game

Utes clinging to a 2 min lead after dominating (but not being able to close out by settling for fgs most of the game) with just 4 mins left in the game.

Michigan seems to have the mo down 23-25.

ACC is not looking very good

Clemson is looking weak against Bama.

How is Cal's offense looking under Riley?

Can’t get the game here in the East.

by Nestor on Aug 30, 2008 5:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hard to Tell How Good Cal's O Is

Riley looked OK.

Longshore threw 2 interceptions to kill drives.

Jahvid Best is fast and looks great.

Cal’s D looks tough but at this stage can’t tell if their D is good or MSU’s O is bad.

17-7 at half.

Interesting

Why did Longshore get in? Thought Riley was their starter.

Switched over to Oregon-UDub game for a bit … UDub’s defense looked atrocious.

And speaking of atrocious, Clemson, the best team of the ACC is getting man handled. ACC is looking weak today.

2 QB's?

Best I can figure out, they were going to give both a chance.

Game was so boring, at the half I took out a bunch of Burn Notice DVD’s and I’ve been watching them ever since.

It's become halfway decent

Mich St. down 7 with 0:18 left on the 50, 4th & 10.

A close Cal win

Just about what I expected.

by Nestor on Aug 30, 2008 8:52 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cal looked fast

Especially Best. I thought it intereting that his time in the 100 was fast enough to qualify for the Olympics.

Also, longshore’s too horrible picks seem to have put him in a distant second string position.

Missing Touchstones

Watching Ore/Wash, now. Burned out after watching 4 hours of Burn Rate.

It’s really hard to tell, this early in the season who is good and who isn’t. I’m not terribly impressed with either team, as I was not impressed with the one half I saw of Cal.

I know sc is good, but how good?

Michigan not good or Utah good?

I am so excited about our game. I think Tenn is a real touchstone. I think having seen these games, we will be able to put our game into perspective.

I’ve said it before, last year, I went into our first game with a sick stomach. No matter how much I wanted to believe otherwise, I knew we would have the season we had.

This year, I know we will play hard, play to win, and leave it on the field. This team will not quit on the coaches and the coaches will not quit on this team. I can’t wait for Monday night.

I just hope that stupid storm doesn’t hit the Gulf Coast and take out my cable.
