For those of you who live outside Southern California and want to join other fellow Bruins to watch the game, here are some locations to get together from around the nation:

  • Bay Area Bruins are putting together three parties. One is going to be at the Stadium Pub in East Bay at 1420 Lincoln Avenue, Walnut Creek. If you want to join this party please RSVP to Rich here. There is going to be another one at Palo Alto at the New Old Pro Sports Bar at 541 Ramona Ave. You can RSVP to Jerry here. And if you are in San Francisco, you can head over to Pete's Tavern at 128 King St. RSVP to Roscoe here.
  • Alums in NYC will be watching Southern Hospitality. Southern Hospitality located at 1460 Second Avenue at 76th street. Go here to RSVP (in the last min).
  • Alums in Washington, DC will be watching the game at the Green Turtle Sports Bar at 601 F Street, NW. More info. on the Green Turtle here.
  • In Chicago, the Bruins watch their games at Joe's Bar, located at 940 W. Weed St. Here are the details.
  • If you live in Honolulu you can head over to Round Table Pizza Waikiki, in the Ohana East Hotel at 150 Kaiulani Ave.

Again, those are the get-togethers we know of. For more on alumni club football watching parties visit this site. If you have info on where the alumni group are watching the games in your town, post the info here. One note to keep in mind - even though these get togethers are hosted by alums - of course, they are open to every member of Bruin Nation.

Otherwise, if you are hanging out here, we will have our first official BN open game thread of the Neuheisel era up about an hour before the kickoff.  Until then if you need to get out any last minute thoughts, observations, pre game jitters or just yell at the "pundits" on WWL this thread is for you.

Fire away in our 2008's first pre game party thread.

GO BRUINS.

SO excited!!!

My family and I are running out of the tunnel with the team today and watching from the sidelines so needless to say, I am just a LITTLE pumped up! I can’t believe game day is finally here! GO BRUINS!!!

by uclafan11 on Sep 1, 2008 11:45 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Haha

They have an auction at the True Blue Celebration and they had this game and the $c game available this year. It’s a package that includes Bruin Bash tickets, running out of the tunnel with the team and staying on the sidelines for the game. So, basically its not a hook up, just some cash! LOL!

Worst part of this show?

The horrible emails at the bottom of the screen. I’d rather watch Jack McCafferty on CNN.

They can't help it

They had to put “Slick Rick” in their CRN teaser. Jerks.

Coming Up: Slick Rick

Seriously? They’re going to interview him and they throw that up there?

weak.

nothing's changed

SEC fans travel in FULL FORCE. I was at the Yardhouse in Pasadena last night, and all over the restaurant (and more generally, Old Town), there were Vol fans. Nice people, but I was sure to remind each and every one of them what time it is.

by deepdish on Sep 1, 2008 12:30 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

That's nothing new

If you had traveled to Alabama in 2001, you’d see UCLA fan out in full force too. Same case in South Bend two years ago.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 12:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I did.

i didn’t say anything about UCLA fans not traveling. I just said that nothing’s changed in terms of SEC fans traveling to support their team.

TN fans

I have been to 3 games at Neyland stadium in TN and their fans are really good people. Anyone going to the game, welcome them to the Rose Bowl and keep our reputation as great fans going…

Fresno State is on right now v. Rutgers

A team we are taking on at the end of this month.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 1:06 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Can't watch the game but

It looks like FSU is having trouble moving the ball. Rutgers has outgained them 145 to 36.

by SuperBruinMan on Sep 1, 2008 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

But Rutgers is not closing the deal. Lot of dropped passes. They are not executing well.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

FSU's D line looks pretty good

Conversely I don’t know much about Rutger’s O line.

FSU only has 43 yards of total offense to this point.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's horrible

FSU’s offense look totally impotent.

OTOH Rutgers can’t close.

Hey BN

I’ll be rooting as hard as I can tonight, but I won’t be on the thread – I’m on my way into Louisiana with Urban Search & Rescue and will be out of commission for a while. Hopefully I can get the score later tonight or tomorrow, but this is my last computer access for probably a few days. Be loud for me, BN.!! Go Bruins!!

Has Alabama recovered from its hungover after laying that whoopin on Clemson?

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll check their pulse tomorrow at work

If the media is any indication, you’d think they won the national championship. They have a long way to go, but it is a step in the right direction for them. They do have a very strong freshman class. It should make for an interesting season.

Oh, and the Sunday night sports show on the ABC station mentioned the CRN ad, asking if it would be a good move for Nick Saban to take out a similar ad calling out Auburn (Bama has lost to them six straight years). Of course, they missed the whole point that it was a call to arms for us Bruins (CRN did mention that on WWL this afternoon).

by bruinbabe2000 on Sep 1, 2008 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know many people hate Saban

I have always liked him.

Bama looked fantastic on Sat night. Then again Clemson has always been over-rated under T Bowden.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I'm not that crazy about him

Especially after he said he’s friends with Cheety and said they think alike. But as we’ve said before, the Bama alums are great, and I really like how they get behind their women’s gymnastics and softball teams.

Did you take your laptop or are you posting via blackberry/iphone?

Iphone

But I spend most of the time chasing my kids, so not many posts, you’ll see.

Anyway, just catching up now. Totally emotionally spend (and no voice).

Just crazy. So happy to be wrong.

It's here at last

Greetings brothers and sisters.

I couldn’t check in from the golf course, but I did manage to get in 36 today. Indeed, life is good.

It’s going to be tough tonight, because Mrs. Fox 71 invited her bridge partner over, and partner’s hubby decided to come, too. Hence, I’m in the front room rather than in front of the computer, and I’ll have to have the sound on. Does anyone know who the annoyancers are going to be?

I have one prediction – Coach Chow will have at least one surprise.

by Fox 71 on Sep 1, 2008 2:33 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Todd Blackledge and ...

I am blanking out.

Note we will have our game thread go up at 4 pm PST.

Hi All

Running down to a neighborhood get together to grab some TX BBQ and will be back in time for game.

BB, do you have a platter of Dreamland Ribs for the game?

Good Q is the only advantage to living in Exile in the south.

BTW — will this be the first “dynamic” game day thread? We made the switchover during Ben Ball season, right?

The first game thread

will go up in about 58 mins.

This is a pre game thread.

And you just made me really hungry!

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dreamland

The consensus is that the original in Tuscaloosa is the only place to go. The other ones don’t hold a candle to it.

Mr. BB used to live by the one here in Birmingham. I usually don’t eat pork so I had a pulled chicken sandwich. Not bad, but not that great.

One of my bosses grew up in Tuscaloosa. She said that at the original, they only sell ribs. After the founder died, his daughter introduced some other sides and dishes, but the public reaction was so strong, they quickly went back to only serving ribs.

How is Gustav treating you? It’s a bit breezier than normal here.

by bruinbabe2000 on Sep 1, 2008 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dreamland in Tuscaloosa

Pretty amazing stuff.

I also recently had some great b’bq near Austin, TX at a place called “Salt Licks.” It was as good as Dreamlands in T’town.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 3:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I may have to break my no-pork pledge to try some

Mr. BB isn’t a big fan of BBQ, but when my brother came out to visit earlier this year, he insisted I take him some place where he could have BBQ.

From what I hear, Texas BBQ is more sugar-based and Bama BBQ is more vinegar-based.

All of a sudden, I just got really hungry.

can you imagine

all the tailgaitin going over at the golf course?

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, it must be a huge party

I wish I was there, but this is the next best thing.

by bruinbabe2000 on Sep 1, 2008 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just thought of something

Mr. BB and I had bratts for lunch today. Bratts are what we had when we tailgated last season with his dad and sister before the Oregon last year. We pulled off an upset that day. Maybe that’s a good omen for today.

by bruinbabe2000 on Sep 1, 2008 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Finally some action in the first game

FSU connects on a bomb to get a 1st and G and then runs it in. Rutgers looks listless (will Dohn be cranky tonight?) but FSU is not looking all that great either.

by Nestor on Sep 1, 2008 3:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

FSU offense coming alive a bit

Their QB is showing some poise under pressure. Ajirotutu is a solid WR.
