UCLA Blood & Platelet Center Needs Blood
UCLA Blood & Platelet Center Website

Many of you may have heard about the train crash in the Los Angeles Area last week.
I just received a call from the UCLA Blood & Platelet center saying that they desperately need blood, as they still have eight patients from the crash at the hospital. If you are eligible to donate, please call the center at please call 310-825-0888 ext. 2 . If you would like to email, please email them at gotblood@ucla.edu.
You may also donate platelets. To donate platelets call 310-206-6187.
UCLA Employees: remember, you receive four hours of comp time for each successful donation. Nonemployees, you can get gift certificates or movie tickets.
All that donate will get Diddy Riese cookies for after their donation! And juice!
I am a fairly regular donor, which is why I received the call. I am not eligible to donate again until Monday, so hopefully someone here will read this and pass the word along.
If you have questions about donations, please check this page out. The UCLA Blood & Platelet center is awesome - I love going there to donate.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

For those who might be nervous about donating
Don’t be nervous. I have a blood type which is in great demand by premature babies. Those with this blood type get calls ever 56 days.
But even if you have ordinary blue-collar blood, it’s valuable. The stick in the side of the finger for the anemia test doesn’t hurt as much as a firm handshake. The stick in the arm to get the vein pumping doesn’t hurt as much as shaving. And as Freesia pointed out, you get cookies! Plus even with the cookies, you’re guaranteed to lose a pound.
I was a multiple gallon donor until my liver went awry, and now I can’t donate because of my meds. I need someone to take my place and do this every 56 days. I promise, you won’t regret it. And if you do, let me know, because i have contacts with the Red Cross, and I’ll see to it that your pint of blood gets returned to you.
Do this, Bruins. Think of how great it would be to see all those bags of blood filling up, and all a very nice Bruin blue.

And gold
Fox, I don’t know if they had this when you were a student but during Beat $c week, there was a blood drive called, “Get the Red Out.” It was a competition to see which student body could give more.
I’m unable to give because of anemia, but for those who can, it’s a great way to help others. Fox, imagine how many young lives you have saved.
I’ll share a somewhat amusing story. My high school would have a blood drive twice a year (the minimum age to donate is 16). One of my best friends signed up to donate, but was rejected because her iron was too low. She went home and told her mom, who is a nurse. The next night, her mom bought her a steak and made her eat it. My friend hadn’t had red meat in a long time and she got sick.
So for those of you who like a good steak, it’s a great excuse.
