Finally a later kickoff. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting sick of leaving my house at 7am, arriving to the Rose Bowl by 8am, taking 30-45 minutes setting up 3 canopies, 2 LCD TV's, a satellite dish, a generator, 20 chairs, 3 tables, beer pong, and Rock Band, all to just tear everything down by 11am to go into the game. I'm looking forward to a nice leisurely tailgate on October 4!

Good for you, bad for those of us exiled east of the Rockies

That means I’m up until 1 am unless the game is solidly in hand.

I agree w/ bruinbabe.

The vast majority of the college football viewing public is east of the Mississippi. ADD TO that all the east coast sportswriters who vote in the polls and vote for the Heisman. There are numerous instances of PAC – 10 teams and PAC – 10 players getting screwed out of rankings and awards because they play too many games too late.

If I were PAC -10 commish I’d make it so no regular season PAC – 10 games would start after 3:30 pacific. This would ensure the whole country would see my players and teams play and the Tony Kornheisers and their ilk (who go to bed at like 10, pah!) would have no excuse for not watching one of the best conferences in the country.

This is what the NFL does right, there’s a ton of 1pm eastern games, a ton of 4 pm eastern games and then one or two 7pm or so games. This way if the NY Giants play in SF at 4pm eastern, all those Giants fans won’t be inconvenienced too much by a game that ends by 7.

Problems with early kickoff times

I don’t know about the players on the field, but at least during September, the 12pm kickoff games are brutal to watch due to the heat. I can only imagine what it must be like with a full set of pads, etc. Yes, I know that there are many other places (Arizona for example) that heat is even more of an issue. I think one of the reasons that people leave early and the stadium attendance suffers during the September games is a combination of the student section being smaller (school not yet in session) and the heat factor causing many people to skip the games or leave much quicker when the game is not close.

I have season tickets and while I go to every home game, I have friends that if the game is mid-day in September tell me they’ll come to a game later in the season because they just don’t enjoy watching the game in 90+ degree heat.

The other issue is more of a selfish one – I love tailgating at the Rose Bowl and a noon kickoff really limits the day. It is much more enjoyable to hang out at the golf course without having to packup at 11am.

I think the 3:30-4:30pm kickoff times are much better all around. It allows the east coast to see the majority of the game and reduces the heat factor — and allows for a longer tailgate session! Problem solved.

Agree, but this is UCLA vs. Wazzou

Do we really want a national audience for this game?

WSU game time??

Front page has it at 4:00 pm, but everywhere else I look has it at 7:15.

I'm also curious!

Which is it? 4:00 or 7:15

This will be my first ever UCLA football game live, so I don’t wanna miss a thing.

Also: Does anyone have any tips on getting to Rose Bowl from Inland Empire (Chino Hills)?
much appreciated!
