I am NOT reading the LA Times EVER AGAIN
Get a load of this tool trying to pick on our Coach:
[Link redcated. No reason to drive up the traffic for tabloid trash. - BN Eds.]
when (*ahem*) maybe LAT beat writers should really be focusing and scrutinizing a coach who "punishes" (I mean, slaps the hands of) convicted felons on a team playing 'cross town?!
I am thoroughly unimpressed by such *newsworthy* pieces of trash gracing a once-respectable newspaper. TJ- What a waste of time bothering Coach and writing this petty article! Pheh.
I'm backing Coach all the way!
Go Bruins.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Resist the urge to click, Bruins
Clicking on the link is like buying another copy of the paper. It just puts money in the fishwrap’s bank account because it serves as another indicator of the wide-spread appeal of the propaganda arm of the daily trOJan. And think about it — do you need any more reasons to not like the ’wrap? Do you really need another reason to cancel your subscription or to do as LoyalAlum and thousands of others have done and cancel your subscription?
Amen
I’m glad the BN Eds took off that link I posted (sorry, my bad).
Keep on preaching F71!!!

It's Simers
Making fun of local sports figures is what he does. He uses a lot of sarcasm.
He makes fun of USC more often (while pretending to be a fan of them). Don’t worry about Simers — yes, he’s mean but he makes fun of everyone. It’s what he does. And he makes fun of USC a bunch too.
Have you never read a Simers column before???
First of all he is not a beat reporter, he is a columnist. Second, he does this to everyone. Sure he is an asshole in this interview, but TJ Simers has been an asshole to just about everyone in LA Sports for the past 10(?) years. That is his stchick, he is the turd in the punch bowl. On the other hand he has raised thousands (millions ?) for the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital every year. He was the one who put together the Evening with Wooden And Scully this past summer at the Nokia theater. All the proceeds of that talk with Coach Wooden and Vin went to the Children’s Hospital. There are many reasons to take the LA Times to task, but a standard column by Simers is not one. You should see what he writes about his son-in-law.
Agree, good point about Children's Hospital
I read Simers regularly (sorry Fox).
Do I disagree with the stuff he wrote in this article? Of course.
But there is some good in him, and he’s not just a UCLA-basher — he’s an equal opportunity asshole.
Simers may be a good guy
but he has no business writing for an LA paper. That guy has never said a positive thing about anyone in his life. He’s the worst writer in sports, and I don’t think it’s close.
Just by him writing this convinces me that CRN will end up being the right guy for the job.

Point about the Children's Hospital
but he was jerk to Coach Wooden! Even on his best day, Simers was no match for Wooden on his worst day.
I was just going to make that point
I was at that Wooden/Scully evening and I couldn’t believe how he treated Wooden. I know it’s his MO but I still thought it was unbelivably rude. Wooden had such quick, witty comebacks that it made things a lot better and the crowd could exhale and laugh!
Quote from that evening
Simers started off that evening right away in his usual “style”. He was rude and sarcastic and of course calling John Wooden the “Wizard”, which he does not like at all. Wooden said that the ONLY reason he was there was because of the charity – otherwise he would not be anyway with Simers. As the evening wore on after another one of Simer’s inane remarks, Coach came back at him with the best quote of the evening, q………………….“It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

Oops
Somehow I postsed this before I finished typing. It should read "Coach came back with the best quote of the evening, quoting Mark Twain……………….

Simers is a joke
Everything he writes has been terrible even when he was criticizing the dump dorrell effort. He picks on UCLA at any opportunity and rarely if ever discusses the nature of the trash/and infractions piling up at $UC
Bingo
If he is such an “equal opportunity basher”, then why does he ignore the elephant in the room?

The funny thing about that was
He was the first person to call Dorrell names. It only took him a couple weeks to call him “Dullard.”

Nothing will change if no one stands up and says anything.
The fishwrap has been the only game in town for years and years. The only thing that they will listen to is diminishing revenues. Don’t subscribe. Don’t buy single copies. Don’t click on their website.
To those of you who still choose to enable the ’wrap, I have but one question: Is there absolutely, positively no other source of news? Ok, make that two questions: Do you have more loyalty to the fishwrap than you do to UCLA? That last one is a legitimate question. As is this one – how many BN readers subscribe to the on-compus version of the Daily trOJan? I assume no one. So why subscribe to the off-campus version? No one doubts that the editorial policy of the fishwrap is that justsc can do no wrong, and that no opportunity to take a shot at UCLA will be passed. So with ample other opportunities to learn what is happening in the world, why would any loyal Bruin continue to enable the fishwrap?
I feel like an evangelist at a mission on skid row. I’m preaching the Gospel, but no one is listening.
I'm in the front row F71!
I’m a BN Holy Roller! Fire & Brimstone baby!!!!!

It's all about TJ
It’s all TJ all the time. His columns are always, “Jeff Kent came up to me or Kobe told me to get lost.”. Ok, TJ we know you are a sports columnist for a major newspaper, but the column shouldn’t always be all about you. That gets old.
I agree with how he treated Coach Wooden. I know he was trying to be funny, but it came off as “I know Coach so well I can get away with insulting him.” Again, it was all about me.
TJ deserves major props for all the fund raising he does for the UCLA Children’s Hospital. I think that’s the only reason I tolerate him.
As far as the Times is concerned, we are cancelling our subscription upon renewal. The political bias is way too obvious, but that’s a whole ’nother story. :)
I may work with the Waves, but I'm still a Bruin!
The funniest thing about Simers
is the guy who writes auto reviews is ten times the writer he is. Dan Neil won a Pulitzer. The car guy, TJ?
hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Frankly, I'm disappointed in CRN
I expected more from CRN than a few awkward cliches and coachspeak. Everyone knows Simers’ schtick yet CRN acted (from what I could interpret from the interview) like he was surprised by the line of questioning. He should have thrown it back in TJ’s face, made a comment about his knee or something, and showed the confidence and personality he displays when interviewed by the Loose Cannons or PMS. Instead, he clammed up, knowing full well TJ was going to roast him in the paper.
Like it or not, the Times is the big fish in the local media and Simers is a well-known personality. I would like to see CRN get Simers on his side so he can write more positive things about the Bruins instead of ignoring them and, worst yet, devote all of his attention to the Trojans. Right now, it’s all about recruiting and the Bruins need all the press they can get to stay fresh in the minds of the next group of warriors that are going to help turn this thing around.
richramus
Simers takes no one's side
That’s what you have to understand. There is no point in sucking up to him because he feels no obligation to play nice. CRN spoke to him in coach speak because he didn’t want to give him any material. Don’t worry about SLimers, CRN will do his work in the living rooms with his recruits.
Have you actually watched the exchange? yes or no?
It is on BRO (behind subscription wall).
Simers came out and confronted CRN being a total dick. He was an asshole. He came there to cause trouble. CRN handled him perfectly with grace and facts. Simers in return was even worse in today’s paper.
CRN handled it perfectly. You can only give an asshole so much attention.
Also here is some news Simers is also a dick to Howland but it doesn’t hurt his recruiting efforts.
How about ignoring the whole thing?
Let’s try ignoring Simers and all his cronies at the fishwrap. How often do we quote the on-campus version of the daily trOJan? Let’s let them do their thing and preach to the justsc crowd all they want. Sure, there is a missed opportunity to correct bad information, but how much time is there to devote? You could spend all your time refuting the nonsense that comes out of that publication.
I don’t spend a lot of time on the conquest cornickles or what ever it’s called. I don’t need it. trOJan propaganda from whatever source just doesn’t interest me. The worst punishment that can be meted out to the blowhards at the fishwrap is to ignore them. If Simers or one of his pals says something n the middle of the forest and there is no one around to hear it, does it become accurate? (There’s probably a better way to make a nifty figure of speech out of the tree falling in the forest, but I don’t want to waste any more time on the ’wrap.)
Hear Hear, Fox
From everything I have read here, this person merits zero attention from me.
Love My Bruins
