Southern Cal @ Oregon State Thread
Bumped - OSU led USC 21-0 at the half
UPDATE: Troy burns in Corvallis. Final Score. Southern Cal 21 Oregon State 27:
Photo Credit: Jonathan Ferry/Getty Images (via Yahoo!)
I know people are watching this game! I haven't been this happy since the Tennesse game! I thought I would put this thread up so we could all give our opionions on the game! I can't believe the way Oregon State has come out and just dominated the Defensive line, getting pressure on Sanchez. This is just Great! What a way to spend a Thursday Night! Like they say"My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever's playing USC!"
Go Bruins!
Go Beavers!

Probably
I would think they would drop a bit because of how OSU dismantled them – maybe 6? It all depends how the other teams do, but obviously if the top teams keep winning, $c is out.

Clarification
I know the final score doesn’t look like they were “dismantled” but we all saw it. 21-0 against a 1-2 OSU team. I think that SHOULD hurt them…but you never know with these voters…

It will be very tough for them to get back in the NC chase
Mostly because nobody left on their schedule is ranked. The Pac 10 is going to have to catch fire and get some teams ranked, but that isn’t going to be easy playing a bunch of unranked teams. Those that do find the Top 25 won’t climb to high for the same reason.
Now here’s a thought. USC v Ohio State rematch in the Rose Bowl with Terrelle Pryor given the entire Big 10 season to get acclimated to the college game. It could be a case of Vince Young all over again. But, frankly I’m not willing to concede the Pac 10 to South Central just yet. I think they have at least one more Loss in them. And, if Rey Thugaluga stays out for an extended period, it could be another 2 losses.

Not too concerned about the Pac 10
Sure it’s selfish, but if our team isn’t good, I don’t mind if the rest of the conference blows. OSU got pounded by Penn State. I hope SUC falls VERY far.

super stoked about this one
OSU does it again? Simply incredible. Everyone remembers the last time OSU took out the trojies. We followed suit to the tune of 13-9. OSU repeated, but can we? I will certainly hope and pray for that! Any day those crooks from across town lose is a good day in my book.

They will DROP!
Before this game the pundits had been saying that the PAC-10 was so bad this year that it was going to be like an anchor around $C’s neck. Virginia got spanked by a not so good team and tOSU was overrated. Not to take away from the Beavers—I gave them every bit of my positive energy tonight—but this loss should be all there is for the trojays. Now, the SEC has a claim at the championship with 3 losses over the trojays. HOWEVER, never underestimate ESPN and the like, putting these morons back into it if they run the table.
My honest opinion, they will lose another and then it’s all over.

Trojans Muff Chance to Pound Beavers
Urban myth or legend?
A friend of mine and UCLA grad from the 80s told me that the Daily Bruin once printed the headline, “Bruins Muff Chance to Pound Beavers” after a UCLA loss in basketball to OSU.
I don’t ever hope for any Bruin loss, but it might have been worth it just to see that headline.

"Beavers muff chance to snatch title"
Seems like it was the other way around. Oregon St had the chance to win the Pac-10 title but lost. I’m not sure if the game involved UCLA or not as it was the title of a rundown of the Pac-10 teams.

Cheaters lose in Covalis again!
Gotta love it. Are the SUC fans going to boo their team at the next home game? Sanchez didn’t look so cocky after the game. In the midst of a dark season, this brings me true joy. I’m still kicking myself for not going to the Cal – SC came in 03 at Berkeley. Time to pull out my fusc shirt with Vince Young scoring the final TD. Beavernation baby!!!!!!!!!!!

What to take away from this game
If there is one thing Bruin fans everywhere should take away from this game, it’s the importance of the big guys in the trenches. Oregon St. didn’t do anything fancy. They lined up and said “we’re gonna knock you off the ball and run straight at you.” That’s exactly what the Beavers did, meanwhile the Trojans were busy with snaps to the halfback and trying to go sideways. The QB with the big arm is fun to watch, as are the electrifying RB’s and WR’s, but football is a game of contact and the big guys are the ones who win and lose games. 98% of the time the team that wins the battle up front will win the game and it was true again tonight.

I thought it was a hybrid man-to-man-zone Beaver defense that got Sanchez/Sarkisian confused
… and that’s how Sanchie couldn’t find on open man. No open man, no progress, no TDs – lookie what happened at the half. But you are correct, Beavers K.I.S.S.ed this game. USC fell asleep at the wheel.

the game was won
in the trenches. Beavers kept fighting back and wouldn’t be intimidated. Pom pom and the great Sarkisian were outcoached, period. No adjustments on defense.
I heard pom pom was qouted as saying “The Pac-10 is ridiculously hard.” LOL

National Title
Sadly, I don’t think this erases SuC’s hope for a NC.
Not all losses are created equal. An early loss is always better than a later loss. SUC will surely drop in the polls, but if they win out, and the SEC teams beat up on each other, they could easily crawl back into title contention.
The media and pollsters love SUC and it will probably take one more loss for them to truly be out of all NC contention, IMHO.

Somewhat trrue
but I think it will be REALLY tough for $c to get into the Championship game now. It’s early, but OSU is a 1-2 team that was POUNDED by Penn State and lost to Stanford. Also, the voters don’t see the Pac 10 as strong at all and $c will probably not play a ranked team the rest of the year. The SEC will beat each other but someone will be represented in the BCS title game, then you have Oklamhoma and other teams up there as well. I guess we’ll see and it also depends how far $c falls this week. Like you said – one more loss by $c and there will be NOTHING to worry about. Let’s do in Decembe 6th!!!
