now that is terrible. I am no style maven but that looks like something designed with 10 year olds in mind. The den shirts have been getting worse with each offering IMO. Simple is better when you are dealing with a group of students that will figure prominently in nationally televised games (the “O” of the Oregon Ducks student section is a good example). You can’t make out a whole bunch of small scribblings in a group shot of the student section on tv.

Terrible

First off, they only sent the email to vote on the shirt to the freshman. Someone got a hold of the link and put it on the den fourm. I’m sorry marketing department but Freshman have no place in voting for the next den shirt. The part that makes it worse is that the bear doesn’t even go down to the bottom of the shirt. There’s a 3 to 4 inch gap between the bottom of the bear and the bottom of the shirt. This was the worst of the designs that were offered, but I knew that it was the one that was going to be selected. To top it off they removed the “CHAMPIONS MADE HERE” and replaced it with “Bank of the West” We are going to look absolutely ridiculous. We need a shirt that is…

1. simple
2. says UCLA and THE DEN
3. doesn’t include the year (this will never happen because marketing wants to make money on people buying new shirts every year)

From a freshman

who voted on the Den shirt (albeit not that one), I am also disappointed. Well, firstly I’m a bit disappointed as to why we shouldn’t get to vote; we DID make the admissions cut in the toughest year ever, and we WILL have paid the largest tuition sums of any graduating class by the time we’re done in ‘12, so I’m not sure why we should somehow be discriminated against in the voting pool (though obviously the outcome of this year’s design doesn’t help our argument). But I will say that I think all classes should have voted for it, since the student section includes everyone, not just soph-srs, and not just freshmen.

Secondly, I’m quite disappointed in the “Champions Made Here”…or lack thereof! It’s the defining phrase of our university, and it deserves to be on the shirt. Bank of the West may have produced the shirts, but we paid for them. We should get to decide what is and isn’t on it.

Thirdly, I’m disappointed that we decapitated our mascot.

I say next year we start a facebook group asking the university to put “Champions Made Here” back on the shirt. Maybe when a few thousand join, they’ll get the point.
