Around SBN: Sean Keeley's Week 12 College Football Buffet

Lane Kiffin is out as Raiders HC and the Raiders aren't planning on paying him--lying and propaganda are being given as reasons for his termination. Well he is a Trojan.

Better yet, Tom Cable (near and dear to my heart for leading one of the most exciting offensive teams I've seen in college football, and doing while I was there) is being given the job. I'm a Chargers fan so BOO RAIDERS but best of luck to Cable!

I am assuming you are kidding about Cable

Cable was a joke and his largely responsible for the kind of OL Neuheisel/Chow/Palcic inherited from Dorrell era.

He was also a pathetic OC who was getting repeatedly bailed out by DO and MJD’s heroics. We have had this discussion many times on BN. So we will not rehash those arguments.

He also completely destroyed an Idaho program he came from.

He will fit in well with the Raiders. I expect nothing less from that organization.

Tom Cable … what a joke and a total abomination.

cable is/was a good offensive line coach

I will give him his credit there, but he was peter principled to OC, and certainly making him an NFL head coach!!

He belongs as an offensive line coach somewhere.

Kiffin actually impressed me with how he handled Davis.

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

Cable was not a great OL coach

He was also a terrible evaluator of recruiting talent. Palcic and Chow have to bite their lips when discussing the OL talent which was primarily result of Cable’s terrible recruiting.

Kiffin

I thought Kiffin did a good job in Oakland. He got his players to play hard and put them in position to win. The fact that he had little talent to work with wasn’t his fault. He handled the past few weeks about as well as one could and should be a head coach soon enough, most likely back in college..How about the Syracuse job, which will be available and coincidentally is Al Davis’ alma mater.

Tom Cable, you are in the perfect place. Enjoy Al Davis.

I wonder if it ever occurs to Al Davis

That the toxic atmosphere that surrounds that team might be his fault and not the fault of any of the five coaches in the last seven years or whatever that morbid stat is. Far be it from me to defend a trOJan like Kiffin, but there was marked improvement in this year’s version of the Raiders. All things considered, I’m not seeing the necessity of replacing Kiffin at this point, and certainly not if you’re just gonna put Cable in that position instead.

Kiffen definitely didn't deserve the boot

but what do you expect from Davis…oakland probably won’t win again this year, and they almost beat the Bills and Chargers with Kiffen.

I agree with Tydides-hard to defend a Trojan, but I think we have to give credit when it’s due. Kiffen wasn’t amazing but Oakland is too young for Al to expect them to win those close games.

Al Davis and the "Traida's" tradition

What could be more bizzarro than the hiring of Lane Kiffin as head coach of the “Traidas”? Oh yeah, the firing of Kiffin by Crazy Old Al. The hiring of Kiffin came out of left field. But was easily explainable because Crazy Al is senile. He actually thought he hired the other USC coach, Pete Carroll. But Al’s press conference today demonstrated just how delusional he really is. He is just plain mean, greedy and senile. Kiffen won’t get his money and Tom Cable better have a second job ‘cuz Al will screw him too. That’s just how Al and the Traidas roll— " Commitment to Treachery". Remember the ten million dollar City of Irwindale drive-by? Anyway, I have only one thing for Crazy Al, JUST LOSE, BABY!!!!

Dementia

It was a few years back when the Crypt Keeper fired a young Mike Shanahan and didn’t pay him. Of course, things worked out ok for Shanny (who still is owed money by crazy old Al) who has gone something like 21-6 against his former boss since. Take heart, Lane, this is really the best thing that could ever have happened to you.

Lane

For a former Trojan it is strange how I feel for this guy. He got a raw deal out of this.

It's karma

Lane cheated at justsc, and now he’s being cheated by Professor Irwin Corey, or whoever it is who’s running the raiders. It really couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch. Could you imagine what things would have been like if Al the nutcase had hired CTS instead of Kiffin?
