Center Court: Ben Ball (Southern Cal) Open Thread
UCLA Bruins at USC Trojans, Jan 11, 2009 7:30 PM PST
Welcome to another LATE SHOW on BN. Ben Ball warriors are on the "road" for another game before they come back to Pauley.
Once again our guys should expect an intense effort for yet another Pac-10 opponent that will try to come up with their season defining win at the expense of the four letter word stitched infront of our guys uniforms. This is their Final-4 playing in front a sold out crowd at home perhaps the only time this season.
So Coach Howland will be looking for an intense effort on defense from JS, DG and rest of their team-mates tonight at the Costco Center. If we can play our brand of our defense and rally behind the senior leadership of DC, AA2, and JS on the offensive side of the ball we are going to be all right:

Our full game notes can be found here.
The tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm PST. Once again it will be broadcast on FSN/FSNPT. You can track it via the official site.
Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

Oh silly Nestor
What kind of comment is that? ;)
It’s UNC. The other team (aside from the Dukies, of course) that Dickie V can’t seem to stop getting on his knees for. I would not be surprised to see ACC-SPN keep UNC in the top 10.

I am disappointed at the way Trojans have outhustled us on the boards and played better defense since Gibson left the game.

I think we drop off badly without AA2 in
We’ve played deep and our freshmen have minutes.
JS and ND not shooting well — ND shot selection issues again. MR has taken 2 shots, DC 4 and JH6. All of them should shoot more. DC and JH should slash — especially if they can put #4 on Gibson.
They’ve shot 4 more ft’s than we have.

Good: 65% shooting
JH: 4-6 from the 2, 3-4 from the 3.
DC: 3-6 from the 2, 1-2 from the 3 (but really 1-1 since the second was a full court shot)
Bad: 29% shooting
JS: 1-4 from the 2, 0-1 from the 3.
ND: 2-6 from the 2, 1-3 from the 3.
James Keefe rebounding well, nobody else is.

our D make me kind of sick
in the first half. Until a couple of late offensive fouls and a DeRozan mistake, we had forced 0 turnovers. No steals, with our guards? And time after time, USC is getting to loose balls, taking advantage of us on the boards and beating us one on one. Unless our defense improves significantly in the 2nd half, it’s could be a long and frustrating night. Let’s go Bruins! Pick it up!

Good
We are trying to get DC some shots. He should take it to the hole everytime. Wilkenson can’t do anything at the basket

We need to lock down our D
Something we really don’t do this year and need to start to.
In the past 2 years, we could lock a team down and get back in the game.
Come on. Lock Down.

I Love Costco the company -- not Costco the arena
When Jen was a teeny tiny, used to put her in a shopping cart and we’d graze all the free sample foods. Great lunch.
Our best day? 12 really good samples.
Didn’t know Nater runs it. How very cool. Costco has great customer service — Nater must be using Coach’s philosophy.

Hey now!
When I was a younger man, working my way through college, I spent my summers stocking at Costco. Don’t be a hater. ;)
Also, despite my pro-Costco bias, it’s one of the few places where you really could live inside the building and never need to leave: clothes, beds (and pillows), food galore, appliances, etc.
Just saying. ;)

I think that is a typical scenario of
a rivalry game. The lesser team will perform above ability yet won’t be able to overcome the overall talent disparity. They shoot their best, but it isn’t enough.
Good to be a Bruin. Sucks to be a trojie.

by Barnes2JJ on Jan 11, 2009 9:39 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Great to me
This may not have won a lot of artistic points, but to come into their house, and shut them down is always sweet. From the $SC cheerleaders dressed in black doing their tribute to Asian hookers (with the fans) to that infernal fight song, to Timmeh popping his veins, it is so easy to relish them going down in flames. I know that they have a joke program, and they aren’t a rival in the sense of tough competition on the basketball court, but it is still sweet to stick it to them.
By the way, I assume the NCAA will do nothing again, but I thought there was a rule against giving bogus scholarships simply to induce other players to your school. We got to see Lil Romeo tonight only because of his haircut. He has 2 points in 10 minutes in the first 15 games of his scholarship ride athletic career. There out to be a law… Oh wait there is. It is just that the NCAA is the enforcer. What a joke.
Also, sweet come from behind win by the UCLA women’s basketball team earlier. All in all, a great day for UCLA basketball.

D made a major improvement
In the last 10 minutes, we played tough D for the first time in awhile. We took them out of their comfort zone. It was fun to watch. If we can do that for longer periods each game, we’ll become a much better team. Nice win.

I know a lot has said about JK
And he’s still a solid contributor, but I think we saw a very solid game from ND and DG tonight. I would not be surprised to see their minutes increase. Love seeing these guys stepping up and giving us some much-needed help in the frontcourt.
