(FROM 2004)
* What if Rick Neuheisel had not self-destructed in Washington and taken himself out contention for his dream job, UCLA, after Bob Toledo was fired?
Imagine the fiery Neuheisel as Bruin coach, going head-to-head against Carroll in recruiting."

Yup
I sometimes wonder where the program would be if we either kept Losman or instead went after Boller. But…I’m more than happy right now and am glad to have paid the price because I truly believe we have the right man for the job at the right time.

Imagine that...
Well it was only 5 years late, but better late than never.

Sometimes you need to get lost in order to be found
Here’s to the future of Bruin football.
Go Bruins!!!

I'll tell you who should have gotten lost!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

I believe everything happens for a reason
And I believe his troubles in Washington made CRN even more passionate about this job. He was given his opportunity and he is going to pour his heart and soul into it.

Were they really lost?
Yes, maybe UCLA endured 5 mediocre years (Other than our decent season in 2002-2003?) but look at the bright side… During those years, Neuheisel got a chance to work in the NFL Ranks, gain more contacts and a different type of experience. All things that he can bring to our team now…
PLUS++++ Norm Chow wasn’t available to us back then. =)

They were indeed lost
It took about one game to learn that the interim guy (the guy filling in the gap after Coach Toledo and before Coach Neuheisel) did not know what he was doing. If we had terminated the experiment early, sometime during that first season, and put Nestor, or Joe the Plumber or Sarah Palin in as head coach, we wouldn’t have seen the program fall to pieces like it is now. We might have had a lean season or two, but CTS made it a lean season or five, and he left the cupboard pretty bare. Coach Neuheisel will turn it around, but we would be turned around NOW if those in charge had admitted that they made a mistake with the CTS hire.
But that’s all in the past. We have a rosy future in store.

I like the "glass if half full" view
but yes, those years were lost. They were lost for everyone who watched those games on tv or in person, for everyone who traveled to away games, for everyone who paid for season tickets, for the players who suffered injuries which could have been prevented, for the players who never reached their full potential, etc., etc., etc.
I don’t want to shovel dirt on the guy any more than necessary, but no amount of time passing will allow for a positive revisionist spin on the 5 years of Dorrellian football.
