Non-Revenue Sports Bruin Review and Calendar

Women's Gymnastics

Up to #2 in the national rankings, UCLA competed in two meets last week and won each of them in convincing fashion. On Friday the Bruins headed south to Fullerton where they took on the Titans and won 196.6-193.875 behind a strong performance from Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs and a perfect score on the vault by Vanessa Zamarripa. Hopfner-Hibbs set career highs in all four events and won the all around with a score of 39.525. Zamarripa scored a perfect 10 on the vault, the first perfect score in the nation this year and first by a Bruin since 2006. The team's score of 196.6 was a season high, but that wouldn't lasy long. On Sunday UCLA scored a 197.125 in a victory over Cal to set a new season high and improve their record to 3-1. Bruin freshmen took the top three spots in the all-around as Aisha Gerber set a team season high with a 39.55 to win the competition, followed by Zamarippa and Hopfner-Hibbs. Next up for the Bruins is a trip to Tempe to face #16 Arizona St on Friday.

Women's Tennis

#3 UCLA began their national title defense last week and got off to a hot start, defeating Cal St. Northridge 7-0 on Wednesday. The Bruins were scheduled to face #23 Pepperdine on Friday, but it was postponed due to rain and will be played on February 4 now. The Bruins (1-0) host two matches this week against Minnesota and either DePaul or LSU as part of qualifying for the Team Indoor Championships.

Women's Water Polo

The #3 Bruins opened their season by competing in the Michigan Invitational and won the tournament in dominating fashion. The Bruins cruised past Bucknell and Indiana by scores of 17-0 and 10-3, then defeated #10 Michigan 10-4 to win the tournament. Tanya Gandy led the Bruins, scoring three goals in all three matches. The Bruins (3-0) now take a week off before visiting #15 Long Beach St. on February 5.

Men's Tennis

The fourth-ranked Bruins kicked off their season with a dominating 7-0 win over BYU. The Bruins (1-0) have three matches on tap this week as they host Boise St. on Tuesday before facing S. Alabama and either Fresno St. or SMU as they attempt to qualify for the Team Indoor Championships.

Men's Volleyball

#8 UCLA looked to rebound from a rough beginning of the season last week, but the results were mixed. The Bruins traveled to #7 Long Beach St. on Wednesday, but dropped a tough five set match 24-30, 30-24, 28-30, 30-22, 17-15. On Friday the Bruins returned home and took care of business with a thee set win over UC San Diego. The Bruins (3-4 ,2-2) will continue to try and find their top form this week when they host Cal Baptist and visit #5 UC Irvine.

Women's Swimming and Diving

The #16 Bruins dropped their final home dual meet of the year in the final relay to Washington on Saturday. The Bruins led heading into the final relay, but Washington took the top two spots in the 400m freestyle relay to surge ahead and win. The Bruins (4-2, 2-2) have three dual meets left, two of which are this Friday and Saturday at Stanford and Cal.

Women's Basketball

The Bruins continued their solid play last week with a sweep over the Washington schools. First, they dropped the Cougars 83-48, then they downed the Huskies 74-66. truebluebruin24 has his recap of the weekend here. The Bruins (14-4, 5-2) will head to the Bay Area this week where they'll take on Cal adn Stanford, both top 10 teams.

Men's Track and Field

#24 UCLA will head to Seattle this weekend where they'll compete in the UW Invitational.

Women's Track and Field

The Bruins will split up this weekend with some athletes joining the men in Seattle and others heading to Idaho to compete in the Bronco Invitational.
