Another Week, Another "Secondary" Recruiting Violation By Sarkasian/UDub?

This is getting a little ridiculous. Last week reports came out that Sarkasian had committed a "secondary recruiting violation" by having "game day simulations" with recruits on campus:

School spokesman Richard Kilwien confirmed Wednesday that the school will report a secondary violation to the Pac-10 after it was determined new coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff violated an NCAA rule regarding game-day simulations while recruits are on campus.
The violation came to light after Desmond Trufant, who has verbally committed to the Huskies, described to Dawgman.com a simulated game-day entrance during his on-campus visit last weekend. An NCAA bylaw prohibits prospects from participating in any type of "game-day simulations" during a visit, but the violation is considered minor.

I agreed with those who said these are really petty rules. However, the point still need to be made about what the reaction would have been if CRN had done something similar in Westwood.

Well what will folks say now that there is yet another report out about another "secondary" violation by Sarkasian and his current DC/former Trojan assistant Holt:

University of Washington compliance officials are investigating whether football Coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Nick Holt violated NCAA rules by allowing a reporter and a high school junior to attend a recruiting meeting that was detailed in a story by The Times.

Sarkisian and Holt last week met with Los Angeles Jordan High senior James Boyd, a quarterback and defensive end who has committed to USC, along with Jordan Coach Elijah Asante, senior Delvon Purvis and junior Deshawn Beck. The focus of the story, published Wednesday, was how colleges, in an effort to land star players, often offer scholarships to their more lightly regarded teammates.

Times reporter Ben Bolch detailed the meetings between the Washington coaches and the players and their high school coach at a Los Angeles hair salon and, later, at a coffee house.

NCAA rules forbid coaches to allow media representatives to be present during recruiting contacts.

They also forbid off-campus recruiting contacts with players before July 1 after the completion of their junior year of high school.

John Morris, Washington's director for compliance, said "there's a couple of statements in the article that could mean we broke the rules.

"It's not some huge violation, it's definitely secondary."

Aaha. Ok then.

Again what would have been the reaction around Pac-10 and all over the country if it was CRN who committed that violation?

BTW I find it kind of funny for the second week in a row, it's the Trojan beat reporters who are broadcasting these secondary violations in LA papers (and websites). Last week it was Scott Wolf from the Daily News, this one is coming from Gary Klein in the LA Times. Only if they were so vigilant in meticulously covering their own beat last few years.

Honestly I don't really care what happens in Seattle. That's UDub's business. But the reason why it is very important for us to mark these stories is because they are giving us some context on what took place during CRN's watch in Seattle. Next time you hear a Washington fan or anyone else around the country (i.e. Petey's Poodle from cross town) start bloviating about the Neuheisel's past in Seattle and Colorado you can just do a quick search and throw this back right at their faces.

It's been just few weeks and we can already see a "pattern" by this former Petey's assistant in Seattle and everyone else knows about the "pattern" we have seen in crosstown during last few years.

GO BRUINS.
