BN Podcast Take Three Open Thread

It's time for our third podcast and with the Bruins falling at the hands of the Ducks last Saturday, there's plenty to talk about. We'll talk about the UCLA defense, the wide receivers, some offensive playcalling and we'll get into that fluky 26 seconds to open the second half, including our kick coverage. After that, we're going to bring in Ragnarok from SBN's Cal blog, California Golden Blogs, to discuss this Saturday's Desperation Bowl.

Join us guys. Leave your questions and comments in this open thread and we'll do our best to work them into the podcast. As always, if you miss the podcast, you can listen to it whenever you want by click play above or by downloading it on iTunes. So come in on and let's have some fun. It'll all get underway at 6 pm PDT.

kinks, but we’ve got it, its the cell phone company’s fault!

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.

Guys might not be able to make it to the live show

But when Ragnarok comes on would love to hear thoughts on how their new OL coach Steve Marshall is doing (who replaced Jim Michalczik, one of the better OL coaches in the game).

I am sure you guys will have all the bases covered otherwise.

lol

Listening to Raganrok talking down Cal special teams? Has he even seen ours?!!

by Nestor on Oct 14, 2009 6:41 PM PDT up reply actions

I’ve only watched snatches of three of your games this year, so no, I haven’t seen your special teams. Cal’s might not be completely terrible, but they’re definitely the Bears’ achilles heel.

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

by ragnarok on Oct 14, 2009 6:43 PM PDT up reply actions

I find that pretty surprising

Given all the explosive athletes in your roster. And that gets me even worried about this Sat.

by Nestor on Oct 14, 2009 6:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, perhaps Achilles’ Heel is a poor characterization. But we certainly don’t have good special teams, and the only player whom you could call notable is punter Bryan Anger, who has a cannon for a leg but has struggled with inconsistency this year.

Here’s some numbers for ya.
Hardly a thorough analysis, but on the surface, UCLA’s special teams look a lot better than Cal’s.

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

Thanks for the compliments

but both are nothing to brag about

btw, thanks for joining us today!

The podcast is uploaded above

and should be on iTunes shortly (they need to approve it before it goes on).

Again, we’d love your feedback. We’re tough so don’t be afraid to tell us what we’re doing wrong too. Any crying we do will be done behind closed doors. Good things, bad things, we’d like to know them all.

Contemplating

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.

by ucla13_usc9 on Oct 14, 2009 9:23 PM PDT reply actions

Would agree with that

Not that it’s any of my biz. But it seems like you’ve been paying attention long enough to remember at least a good portion of the 8 streak. I had a very vivid experience of no. 3-8 in that streak, so I would never concede that 13-9 is the only glory moment anyone can remember, even though I will say that the Rose Bowl was more electric in that game than any since at least 92 (where my memory stops).

by bluebland on Oct 15, 2009 12:57 AM PDT up reply actions

Perhaps. But honestly, regardless of how the game ended up (and god knows I’m happy it ended in our favor) that was one of the best UCLA games I’ve been to in my life. I usually lose my voice during UCLA games… that was the first one I lost my hearing too.

Go Bruins!
