THE DEN: Men's Soccer golDEN Game vs. Cal
Thanks to all of BN who helped make the Women's Volleyball vs. U$C game a success. We ended up sweeping them 3-0 to win our 4thstraight home meeting vs those trOJies.
Our next golDEN game of the year is tomorrow (Friday, Oct 16th) when #4 UCLA takes on #10 Cal (would normally have been U$C but they do not have a men's soccer program). The game will start at 7pm, with gates opening at 6pm.
You are invited to join the students on the lower section to add to the loudness, or sit on the announcer booth to get a better view of the match.
To add more entertainment, we have added a "halftime show." It will basically be a ridiculous soccer-related activity that will humiliate (in a non-demeaning way) some of our bright students.
This will be a great way to start off an important weekend vs. Cal.
Hope to see you all there!!! Go Bruins!

Awesome!
This is the match of the year in the Pac-10 and will set the tone for our Pac-10 campaign. I reallllllllly wish I could go, but I have to be a productive member of society and work. It sucks. I may be able to get there by the second half so if I can, I’ll be there for that.

Huge Weekend!
Tonight and Sunday’s game vs. Stanford will give a great deal of insight on just how good (or just how average) this team is.
Some common themes of concern:
- the team is being consistently outshot
- the team can’t or has very little success scoring on a corner (which is a carryover from last season)
- Monge and Arreola haven’t gotten untracked at all this year. (neither has a single goal but to Arreola’s credit, he has a few assists) Forwards are paid to put the ball in the net.
Any word on the extent of Perk’s eye injury and whether he will play tonight? (I think the better man between the pipes may very well decide the fate or fortune of each respective team)
Hopefully Rose is game fit and can go a full ninety alongside Alvarado.
See you there!

Going tonight and Sunday, but
I haven’t been able to see them much this season. If those have been the problems the team’s faced, that’s reallly interesting. Those pretty much seem to have been the problems for the last couple years. One question – is their being outshot usually a product of letting the opponent get a ton off, or not shooting many themselves?

UCLA wins 1-0
Big win for the Bruins as a 15th minute goal by David Estrada proves to be enough. I couldn’t make it so I’d love to hear the thoughts of those who did.

great first half
Had many opportunities to end the game, but couldn’t burry them in the back of the net. Second half seemed a little more even, but it think it was more due to the fact that UCLA was happy with 1-0 result and wasn’t so offensive.
Need a lot of work on some of our midfield set pieces/free kicks. Gave away at least 3 in a row.
Got a little excitement at the end when the Cal players became really frustrated and physical. The ref and teams had to break up a fight after excessive pushing and yelled by one of their players in the 90th minute.
Important win for the Bruins!!!
GO BRUINS!!! CHEER LIKE CHAMPIONS!!!
