Pac-10 Suspends Official from OSU/USC Game
For not calling a penalty on Taylor Mays as he tried to rip James Rodgers' head off, one official has been suspended. Unfortunately, the league did not say who was suspended, but the Oregonian reports it was the referee Jay Stricherz who had the best view of the play.

Pac 10 did this?
is this the first time the Pac 10 has ever suspended a ref? Wouldn’t be surprised. Hopefully it inspires the other refs to pay a little more attention.

I saw it as a blurb in Wilner's blog in the SJ Merc
So I went to the Pac-10 website, couldn’t find it. Not on the front page of ESPN, ESPN college football… eventually I saw it was on the ESPN Pac-10 Blog but only after doing a google news search.
So yes, you can nearly rip someone’s head off, have an official watch you do it, and no one cares because you play for SC.

U$C* Alumnus?
I cannot verify this, but commenters on different sites (ESPN and Oregonian) state that Jay Stricherz is a U$C* alum. If this is indeed true, it makes this and some of his other calls very interesting. Would a 15 yard penalty, assessed on the following kick off, have any bearing on OSU’s strategy since field position would be more favorable (onside kick?).
When Bill Doba’s WSU Cougars lost to the Trojans, 28-22, in 2006, he wasn’t happy about a Stricherz call:
The Trojans appeared to have the game in hand, when Smith ended a 17-play drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from John David Booty with 5:52 remaining. That drive was extended when referee Jay Stricherz waved off a flag thrown by his linesman for USC holding on a 3rd-and-3 run.
“I would like to say something, but I’m not going to,” Doba said.
Then in 2007, against UCLA, is Stricherz again showing his ketchup and mustard colors?
Twice, referee Jay Stricherz left his mike on, and UCLA fans had to hear him say, “They didn’t hurt you too bad, did they, John David?” after Booty was roughed.

tech issues ... I meant to add
I don’t really consider myself a conspiracy theorist, but it makes you wonder how an official could miss such an obvious call.

I wouldn't put anything past them.
I will never forget the heartbreak of the 2001 season and how it ended with DeShaun Foster’s SUV-gate. But that which sickens me the most and I’ll always remember the most clearly was when ESPN ran a crawl on SportsCenter alleging that there were ties between the person that gave DeShaun the SUV and South Central.
I saw the crawl run a handful of times, but never ever saw a story in any of the print agencies. Most people I have brought this up to are clueless about it. But! One guy I brought it up to, (a shady character outright with heavy ties to U of South Central) not only knew about it, he didn’t deny it. He put the onus on DeShaun Foster saying, “It’s his fault for taking it.”
Sure, but it smells like he was enticed just so you guys could turn him in.
